Classic Beauty College
I do not recommend this college if you're looking for a budget priced service. The only service they do well is hair coloring, but you can't really mess that up unless you try to. The girls are all usually very young, I estimate under 18 yrs of age. They do horrible haircuts and even worse pedicures. The last girl that gave me a pedicure did not know what she was doing.
Phoenix Central Library
Phoenix Central Library offers many perks. First you cannot miss it, the entire structure is practically composed of windows. This is a multi level library which means you will most likely find what you need. They also offer a children/young teen section where kids can gather and learn about literature. This is a great way to keep kids out of trouble. They also offer after hour book/media drop off so you don't have to worry if you arrive late!
Paradise Valley Community College
PVCC is a part of maricopa community colleges. This academic network has been praised by scholars throughout the USA. The classes are small (30 people at most) and they offer flexible time schedules. They also offer distance learning. But beware if you attend classes on site it maye take you 20 mins to find a parking spot. The teachers are well educated and often teach at Arizona State University as well. If you're a resident, education is very affordable at only 60 dollars a credit hour!
Desert Botanical Garden
Desert Botancal Garden is a lovely and serene place to spend the afternoon. They have butterflies of every breed, but it is a bit warm since it's a tropical setting. They also have many of the valley's natural plants and flowers. If you're a tourist this is a wonderful place to find out what Phoenix's wild nature is like. I heard recently they had the corpse plant, which attracts many visitors worldwide.
Uncle Milty's Auto Sales
Uncle Milty is a great guy. At first I was worried about stepping onto a dealership. Usually you think they would swarm you like flies. However this small family owned dealership is the perfect place to buy a used cars. Most of his cars are around 1500 which isn't bad if you're on a budget. He lets you roam around freely and if you have a question you can easily find him in his office. There is virtually no parking however.
Phoenix Zoo
The Phoenix zoo is a very lively attraction for the entire family. One of their best spots is the one where you can visit all the small monkeys. You don't have to stand behind a cage and they walk around you on small ropes and ladders. I also enjoy the large swamp outside the zoo where you can see the large turtles and the tortoises. But parking can be bothersome. I recommend going on a weekday.
Phoenix Childrens Hospital
My mother in law works for this hospital so I know most of what goes on. I also volunteer on occasion. This is a superb hospital for children, they never turn a family away. If they run out of beds they will try their best to send you somewhere with an opening. They also have many of the best doctors and surgeons. They have a large parking lot so you don't have to worry about parking!
Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spas
This salon and spa is one of the most classy establishments I have ever been too. parking is always easy to find, and there is very little traffic in the spa. The ladies are courteous and are very attentive to your needs. If you have a special request, for example you have a neck injury and can only lay a certain way they will accomodate you. I recommend going during the off season (basically not around the holidays) if you're looking for cheaper prices.
Labor Finders
This has been one of the smallest salons I have ever been too. Although it is ground level it feels as though it's underground (like in a basement). But for the limited space they excel by giving us price cuts. The prices are not very expensive considering hair services are expensive by nature. I recommend the hair highlights. A word of caution, be prepared to spend a lot of time. The hairdressers often multi-task with other customers so you may be spending a bit more time than expected.
Ichi Ban Buffet
Sushi Buffets are hard to find since sushi is so often very expensive. Ichi Ban finds a natural medium between price and quality. The sushi is not the best i have tried, but since it is unlimited I can't complain too much. The price isn't too bad for around 20 dollars a person. They also feature other items such as snow crab legs, and bbq items. It's a fairly big restaurant so you do have leg room. The servers are friendly, and they always try to fill your cup with tea!
