from spices to live food, new may wah supermarket carries it all. the produce and fresh food taste great and never rotten. fresh prawns and clams are the best. on the other side of the store, they carry every sauce and spice an asian kitchen needs. best of all, the prices are cheap. you can not find a better bargain anywhere else in the richmond district. in addition to groceries, they offer a wide selection of cookies and candies from china and japan.
this is one of the best places to find underground music in all of san francisco. they are known for having what would be hard to find albums in regular retail stores. however, there are problems with the store that need to be fixed. for one thing, the layout is horrible. trying to find your way around to certain artist can be a nightmare. the staff isnt helpful either. in addition to these problems, the prices for each CD is almost sky high. if you cant find your specific album anywhere else, try this place. if not, stay away
this is a ice rink is good for any skill level. the staff is very helpful for new skaters and watches over the rink so no one gets injured. because it's indoors, the temperature over the ice isnt unbearably cold. they smooth out the ice every once in a while to keep the ice clean and free of cuts. its a nice place to hang out with friends or just kill time.
unlike toys r us and K Bee, this place has many "one of a kind" toys that wouldnt show up on the shelves of larger department stores. when i went there i was amazed with the variety of toys they had, especially in their pretty small store (compared to a toys R us). the catch of course, is the price. because they are not part of a chain and they have to compete with larger department stores, they have to raise their prices. i recommend this place to at least visit for the holidays.
stanyan street cyclery is a great place to find advice and buy bikes. however, their selection is not that great compared to other cycleries around san francisco. they do carry treks and diamond backs, but when i went there no specialized bikes could be found. stanyan street does offer great advice and does not try to sell you things you do not need. as long as you know what you are looking for, they can help you.
valencia is one of the best cycleries known in san francisco. i bought a couple of bikes there with no problem. in addition the great advice they offered me, i recieved 10% off their supplies for 4 months and got a free tune up. they didnt try to sell me any bike that was out of my price range, and they didnt try to sell me anything that i didnt need. it was easy to test ride bikes, however the neighborhood isnt that good for testing out mountain bikes.
right in the middle of height, this store appeals to anyone interested in urban clothing for men or women. they have great annual sales where almost every piece of clothing goes dirt cheap. i really like the clothing they sell there, and the selection of shoes is pretty good too. i recommend this store to anyone trying to pick up some urban clothing, its a must see.
if anyone knows how to make a theater, it's sony. it boasts 15+ screens, an arcade, an one of a kind playstation store, several bars and restaurants, and the famous sonystyle store. i found that the newer movies were placed in large auditoriums, and the sizes of the screen was quite impressive. the older movies are pushed back into regular sized rooms, with acceptable sized screens. although the prices for the movies are more expensive than most (say amc 1000), it is worth the extra buck or two. seats are comfortable and before the screening there is usually a cart that comes by with drinks and snacks if you havent picked them up already.
this is a general pet store, with no real specialty. they sell various supplies for fish, reptiles, birds and mammals, however they are all very overpriced. i guess because of the location they are in. they do sell livestock in the store: reptiles, dogs, the occasional rabbit, birds and fish. the fish department is lacking in variety and knowledge. i would recommend finding your supplies and livestock somewhere else.
selling mostly birds and bird supplies, this pet store is one of the cleanest i've been to. the prices are not overly expensive and the service is well worth the extra few bucks. although most of the store specializes in birds, they do have a section for dogs and cats. i have bought a few birds and the advice i've recieved from them was extremely helpful.
