Riddles Comedy Club
I've only been here once, but my experience was very good. The acts were all hilarious, and there was plenty of space to sit at a table with friends and enjoy the show.
One of the nice parts of the club is that after the show, the comics will come hang out in a bar built in next door, and you can really meet some interesting people.
PROS: great space, fun way to meet local comics
CONS: could look nicer on the inside
Governors State University
This is a really nice campus to visit. Outside they have many different huge works of art, and you can easily spend a few hours walking the grounds and experiencing it for yourself. The best part about that, of course, is that it's absolutely free. In the times when the weather is nice, it's a lot of fun.
Also, they have a nice library with a good selection of books, and ample space to get work done. I used to study here at times even when I didn't go.
Plus, the school itself has many advanced courses for those looking to get grad degrees.
PROS: great art, nice workspace
CONS:
St Jude The Apostle
This is a good Catholic Church connected to a private grade school. The atmosphere is nice, and they even have a separate room for families with small children in case the young ones are loud. The priests are very good, and the people are friendly.
There are usually many things going on in the AV rooms or the gym that is connected, and many times you can find pancake breakfasts or other various activities.
There is a lot of parking on both sides of the building for those that see one of the lots full.
Nick Barone DDS, Ltd
This is a great dentist office. I've been a patient for a long time, and have always had a good experience. They used to be out in Cal City a few years back, however the new location is nice and located right by the movie theaters.
One of the coolest parts of this new office is that they have TVs set up to watch while you're getting worked on to take your mind off being there.
Harvey Adult Education Ctr
This is a great building to go into if you're looking for books but need a better selection then the nearby public library. I've used it many times back in HS. Also, they have a large range of telecourses so you can take classes on your own time, which is great for the summer or people with jobs. It's really easy to work with them on signing up too, and the staff is extremely helpful. Also, for people looking to get certifications, there are many programs available.
The school is multiple floors and has a decent sized cafeteria, and may or may not still have a smoking room.
Glen Woodie Golf Club
I've mainly gone here to just hit off some golf balls. They have a pretty decent sized area to hit from, and you can usually get a place to play. Make sure to bring some golf tees though, because they don't have the t matts some other places use. There's a nice shop as well, and pricing is good.
For the more regular golfers, there's a nice course as well on the grounds.
Koch's Foods
Kochs is a pretty small shop with a nice little butcher section and a very small amount of other foods. If you're looking to get something catered, they'd be able to help you out. Also, this is usually a good last minute place to pick up random food supplies on holidays when everything else is closed. Just don't expect to do all your shopping there and you'll be fine. There's a pretty good supply of alcohol for sale as well. The staff is very friendly.
Fairplay Finer Foods
This isn't the nicest store in the area, but they tend to be open even on holidays when other stores are closed. This has been a life saver in the past. Plus, it's basically set up similar to a Jewels, so you can usually find what you're looking for.
It's also conveniently located for after church shopping.
Theater Time Video
Don't go into this store expecting blockbuster. It's mainly a small location where people from nearby towns would stop by if in the area, and I think you can only get a card if you live close. The people working here are friendly, and they'll usually hold a video for you if you call ahead.
Expect to get inside and find that what you are looking for might not be there. However, more often then not I haven't had that problem. This is a great store if you live in the area.
Also, they sell used movies and games.
PROS: Great local service
CONS: small
South Holland Bowling Lanes
This is a really small bowling alley, so don't go if you're expecting to get a lane for sure. You're better off calling ahead. Also, the atmosphere can change greatly based on who is actually in the building. I wouldn't take a family there without first checking with the management. If you're just looking for a place to hang out with friends and can get a lane though, it's a lot of fun.
