Tinley Park Public Library
This is a really inviting library, and comforting to be in. It's in a huge building, and has a lot of differen't resources. I've actually found some good music here as well. My main gripe with the library is that they'll charge you to take out a movie. Other then that, it's a great place to go.
PROS: really nice building, good selection
CONS: Movie rentals aren't free
South Holland Public Library
This isn't exactly the largest library in the area, but it does have its share of resources. There's also a nice little historic section about the town in the basement, so people that aren't even considering checking anything out might want to go there simply for that. You can take out most books for 3 weeks, and you can renew online if you don't feel like going in person. That's a great feature to me. Also, you can rent DVDs and videos for free.
PROS: online renewal, SH historical site, good selection
CONS: smaller then other libraries in the area.
Schererville Golf And Fun Center
This is a pretty nice place to hit some golf balls. There are 2 sections of driving ranges, one part being sheldered and the other being in the open. There's also a lot of things to do for families and kids here, and I've seen people of all ages. The miniture golf part especially looked nice, and you can always pick up some food at the concession stand and hang out on the benches and tables on nice days. This is in a great neighborhood, and is in excellent condition.
PROS: great condition, nice area, family friendly
CONS: can get crowded
Illiana Veterinary Hospital: Asuncion Jeanette A DVM
This is just a great business. Every time we've had problems with our pets, they were there to take care of us, often times staying even past their normal business hours due to last minute emergencies. Also, in bad times, the staff was extremely understanding and made us feel really comfortable. It seems that everybody working there really cares about their job and only wants the best for the animals.
Another great thing about this animal hospital is that it's located right off the expressway, so it can be a good place for people not even in the immediate area.
PROS: Great staff
CONS: none
Glenwood Bowl
This is a pretty good bowling alley, with lots of lanes. I've personally never had a problem getting a place to play, but they do have league nights which might vary throughout the year, so you might want to call ahead. Either way, they usually only take up one section of the alley when that happens, so you can usually get to play.
Also, there are usually people of all ages there, so you could take the kids, and there's usually HS aged people around just hanging out in case anybody is looking for that type of scene.
PROS: lots of lanes, family friendly
CONS:
Exchange-A-Book
If you're looking for a place to search for cheap books, you'll like this one. It's not exactly the nicest place, but it serves the function of selling you books at a cheap price, and allowing you to trade in old ones is a plus.
Also, considering other people are constantly bringing in new materials, you might want to take your time and browse because you could easily run into something cool.
PROS: Good selection, you can save money
CONS: Store setup
Amazing Fantasy Books & Comics
You aren't going to find a huge store here, but you will easily find all the main comics you're looking for. I used to shop here a lot when I still collected them, and I mostly picked up the basics like XMen and Excaliber. The guys that work there would also hold things for me as they came in and recommend new stuff to read.
They also have a selection of graphic novels, and a new age book section where you can find titles like the Necronomicon.
PROS: nice store, good selection
CONS: none really, unless you're looking for something huge
Narrow Path Book Store
Anybody interested in the Orthodox Church might find this little store interesting. They sell books, DVDs, music, and framed pictures all with a religious nature. You can even pick up some niche items like prayer rope, holy water, or religious jewlery.
Just make sure that you go in you realize you're entering a Serbian Orthodox store and not a regular used book place like I first did. I'm mainly giving it a 4 because I think people who wanted to buy what they are selling would like it alot.
Barbain Books
This is an interesting shop, located where there used to be a Super Crown. It's a bargain book store though, so it's a completely different experience. It's a lot of random books for a lot of random subjects all over the place. This isn't going to be a place you'd go to find what you're looking for.
However, if you have time to spend browsing, you might find something great at a good price. I've picked up a few great books here myself, but would rather the store be set up with a nicer presentation.
Also, on occassion they offer DVDs which tend to be really cheap.
PROS: great for people that like to browse
CONS: setup could be less chaotic
Borders
This is a really great store, with a HUGE selection of books in many different categories. Also, they have a pretty good selection of music, and a small selection of DVDs. With a built in coffee shop, it's a nice place to hang out. Just don't expect a great deal on a book.
From time to time, local bands even make an appearance and the place seems like a venue. Book signings and other events also happen.
PROS: great selection, cool layout, coffee hangout
CONS: not exactly cheap
