Brand Bookshop
I agree with all the other reviewers that this is a great used bookstore. It is large, clean and well organized and has a wide variety of material. I came in one day and found a whole collection of books on a topic I was interested in and bought the lot. The owner gave me a significant price break which I appreciate very much. It's worth spending a few hours just strolling through the stacks. You never know what you'll find. I try to pop in at least once a month. Parking is available in the Glendale public lot just behind the store as well as the catch-as-can meters on Brand Boulevard.
Aldine Books
As of the writing of this review, Aldine is the last used bookstore in the Hollywood area. It is located in the Los Feliz area and has been there for over forty years. It is a dank, dusty and dirty place and the squeamish should not come in. If you drive a late-model Honda this is not the place for you. But if you are actually interested in books and in finding hidden treasures then this is the place for you. It specializes in history and politics and has the largest selection of books on the Middle East I have ever seen outside of the British Museum. There is also a large biography section and Hollywood related section. New books come in every day and are arranged in no particular order at the front of the store. Ira, the owner, is a local character and is very knowledgeable. If he doesn't have what you need, he can find it for you. There is no parking but street parking is available. It's worth spending some time there going through the stacks at your own risk. You might not know what you want or need until you see it. That's the beauty and power of a used book store.
