When my wife and I got married a few years ago, we had no idea where to have the floral arrangements done, so we just picked the florist closest to our wedding. Fortunately for us, that turned out to be Floral and Hardy! From the first time we visited, the florist took time to find out exactly what we needed, even taking us back to the back room to show some additional possibilities. To say the least, we were very pleased with the results, from the smallest flower pin to the bridal bouquet. (And the best part: they were the most affordable of all the places we ended up contacting!)
Martin park holds a number of fond memories for me, especially as a kid... running/hiking the trails, peering closely for a glimpse of the wildlife (everything from prarie dogs to rare bird species!), checking out the exhibits in the park museum, and generally enjoying the quiet of nature.
Since that time, the city has crowded around the park, but it still remains intact, and I hope to take my own kids there someday, to share it with them.
Although it's normally quiet, Shepherd Mall becomes a bustling lively crowd around lunchtime, with employees and students from around the mall hurrying to the lines growing around the small food vendors. One of the most popular ones, and one of my favorites, is Beijing Chinese. The portions are excellent for the price (about $3 for a nice serving of your choice with rice and bread), and although it's not the best Chinese I've ever eaten, it's certainly satisfying!
Shepherd Mall has been turned into a multitude of offices, so it no longer feels like the shopping place it used to. However, there is one place which still retains the bustling atmosphere of old - Dizzy's. Near the point where the two wings of the mall meet, Dizzy's is the perfect place for employees to grab a coke, order a burger and fries, and sit and chat with friends. The owners and manager have been there seemingly forever, and even know the regulars by name!
Because they actually have other types of dishes, Nothing but Noodles doesn't exactly live up to its name, but it certainly lives up to the implied "we have great pasta!"
The interior of the restaurant is decidedly modern, but the fare includes some classic favorites (including an excelent version of my own favorite, Angel Hair with Cajun Chicken).
At first impression, Sammy's Automotive looks like just another auto shop, with greasy-handed mechanics delving into cars and trucks with their hoods up. But after a number of years of reasons to get my vehicle repaired, I've found that the technicians at Sammy's have not only been extremely competent, but honest as well.
Their prices are very competitive, they have a great towing service as part of their business, and the only time I ever had an issue with a repair, they corrected the problem free of charge.
I started fencing back in high school, when a local parent decided to offer classes. We didn't always train at Redlands Fencing, but we inevitably ended up there quite often.
For everyone from beginners to pros, from recreational to nationally-ranked competitions, the local fencing world (at least here in Oklahoma) centers around Redlands. And for good reason: they have the best fencers and coaches, the most available equipment, the best techs, and even a nice selection of renaissance armor/weaponry!
I'm a fairly typical guy, and I normally keep my hair long, so I don't often need to get any kind of salon-type services.
However, at my wife's suggestion, I have been going to Positive Impressions over the last couple of years to get my infrequent hair cuts. It's a comfortable, quiet place, renovated from a residence among some trees near MacArthur. My stylist is very easy to get along with, and has never charged me too much (in fact, she usually asks for too little!).
My first visit to G & H Computers was out of necessity; they were the nearest location to my home. Since it was a small store, I was actually surprised by the hardware selection and expertise of their tech support. Since then, despite moving a couple of miles further away, I continue to visit, even for minor tech issues, simply because of the level of service I receive. For example, the last time I visited, the tech guy didn't charge me for the half hour of troubleshooting he did, and gave me a nice discount for some memory I purchased.
