Albright-Knox Art Gallery
Having studied art in college it was so great to be able to see works of art in my text books and then go see them in real life. The Albright has the best abstract expressionist in the world. The temporary gallery upstairs often times has exhibits that are extremely interesting.
Hyatt's-All Things Creative
Hyatts is the easiest place to buy all your art supplies.. and they know it too. This is probably why their prices are so high. During my four years in college majoring in art I found myself in need of art supplies right away. Without having time to shop around I usually had to buy everything there. I can't remember a time I left without at least $100 being wiped from my bank account. But still, they do have a good selection of art materials.
PROS: lots of art supplies
CONS: costs an arm and a leg
Sonny's Doggie Bakery
This is a little shop that sells homemade dog treats. They are made with human grade ingredients (the owner says she eats some of them herself). When you go in she will offer you a free treat and explain about how she makes them. I got a box full of treats for around $5. You can keep them in the fridge so they last longer. I however have stopped giving them to my dog because he ended up farting the whole day and boy did it smell. But if you don't mind a stinky dog then they will surely love the treats. gassy
PROS: lets you show your dog you love him
CONS: made my dog gassy
North Tonawanda Senior High
I had the chance to observe in some classes. The teachers were very friendly and willing to help students even on their own time. The classrooms had a decent amount of computers and projectors so you could show power point presentations from your computer easily. There was a strong sense of school community that showed.
Austin's Hair Studio
Austins is a good place to get a haircut. The owner cut my hair; he was a very nice guy. It was clean and was set up well. As far as price goes it seemed to be the same as other similar salons. I would highly recommend Austins.
Village Laundry
I use to go to a run down laundry mat by my house, but now I go a little farther to this place. It has over-sized machines, a few tables, and a tv so you have sometime to watch while you wait. It is also near a bagel shop, coffee shop, and record store so you don't have to wait with your clothes if you don't want to.
MoMo's Mongolian Grill and Sushi
This is the ultimate dining experience. You sit around a grill and after you order your food a chef comes to your table and makes everything right in front of you. He does a bunch of tricks while he cooks, such chopping an onion up, filling it with alcohol and lighting it making fire shoot out of the top. I ordered a drink in a Buddha glass with the straw coming out of his belly button. A little pricey, but it's a dinner you won't soon forget.
PROS: great fun
CONS: You're paying more for the experience
off the wall
They have a decent menu, mostly sandwiches for lunch. The food isn't the main draw of this restaurant though. It is called off the wall, and for good reason. Anything you see in the store you can buy and take home with you. I've even been told you can buy the chair you're sitting on. The food is fairly expensive. Most dinners are at least $15, while sandwiches with fries are $10.
PROS: You can buy literally anything off the wall
CONS: expensive
La Nova Pizzeria - Buffalo Location
La Novas has some of the best wings around and there pizza is pretty good too. However, over the years there have been many problems so now I take my business elsewhere. Once a pizza was delivered with the cheese all over the box and it wasn't even cut all the way through. It took over an hour to get another one. Another time, after two years service, they said they couldn't deliver to us because our phone number had a different area code. This was after we had placed the order. After arguing a little he told us he was going to charge our credit card anyway and not deliver our pizza.
PROS: good wings
CONS: horrible human beings work there
Saigon Cafe - Buffalo
Saigon cafe is a local Vietnamese restaurant that has indoor and outdoor seating. They have a good selection of food, however it is not always great. I have found about half the time it is really good, and the other half it is lacking. The service is really good since the place is small and the waiters aren't assigned to tables so there is always someone around to help you.
PROS: good service
CONS: food isn't always great
