Rookies Sports Pub
I've been to Rookies many times and each time I've had a good time there. The menu at Rookies is so much better than most pubs-- try the daily special or the burgers-- much better than your average "pub food".
This pub is open most nights until 3AM, and on some nights can draw a good crowd. Weekly events include karaoke, live music, and poker tournaments.
Paragon Restaurant
I've eaten at Paragon several times, and each time I've had good service!
This restaurant is extremely popular with senior citizens and police officers for some reason-- I think it's because this seems like a 'throwback' restaurant in many ways-- good food, no nonsense decor, real ingredients, and an awesome price....
Many things on the menu are good-- try the reuben sandwich, fried chicken dinner, any of the burgers, or any of the salads-- I've tried them all and loved them all!! OH YEAH, almost forgot to mention that when you get to pay the bill, you walk past a counter full of delicious looking pies and cakes that makes Denny's look like cheap frozen deserts.... Friday they have a special on desserts for dinner too, so if you have a sweet tooth along with wanting a good priced dinner, you'd better come here-- that's all I'll say about that! (hehehe) Paragon also serves breakfast items too, but I've never tried them though.
If you're looking for a good priced, quiet sit-down dinner on the west side, Paragon is very hard to beat. I'd almost say that it's a loosely-kept secret on the West side of Indy!
Noble Roman's
I've eaten here at Noble Roman's a few times and the service has been great.
When you first go inside the restaurant the first thing that jumps out at you is that this is very much a pizza parlor from the 70s or early 80s that were very popular back then (Except the jukebox is missing LOL!)-- from the lacquered wood booths, to arcade machines in the front, to the televisions located in every view.
This isn't by accident either-- this store has been open for many years, and once you taste the pizza, you'll know why! The ingredients are fresh, and the pizza tastes head and shoulders better than other "Noble Romans" I've eaten at.
Make sure to attend "Sicilian Sunday", where every Sunday you can get a large deep-dish sicilian-style pizza for a deep discount, like $8 or $9 for a large pie-- or if you want to feed a hungry family thru the week, pick up one of their "Colossial-size" pizzas (I think they're 18" or 20") with one topping for well under $20-- it will feed ANY family of 4 with very healthy appetites!!!! Excellent pizza place, IMO.
China Buffet
I've eaten here many times (open since 1993) and the restaurant is still the same, very good-tasting entrees at a good price.... I can buy lunch (with coupon) for just over 5 bucks-- how cool is that!-- these guys don't have the most items to offer compared to other buffets but they also have plenty of seating space-- good place to have a cheap dinner or lunch if you're on this side of town.
New China Buffet
I've eaten here at the New China Buffet many times and the biggest advantage is the grill! One of the best I've seen at any chinese buffet-- you can choose from shrimp, chicken, beef, or pork meats and many sauces-- very, very good....
The buffet items are pretty good, better than most but nothing too extravagant is offered. If you pay attention to the local coupons, you can save a few dollars too off lunch and dinner prices.
Interior is newly remodeled in the past year, and I believe that the place is under new management-- A Chinese Buffet has been in place since the mid-90's at this location-- but it makes a great lunch or dinner buffet if you're on this side of town.
Foot Locker Outlet
This review is for the Foot Locker Outlet store.... This store has been here for over 10 years and is awesome when it comes to shoes, athletic wear, sports jerseys, and even some in-style fashions! I've found new brand name athletic shoes for less than $10 (Men's NIKE shoes), a pair of NIKE basketball shorts for .50 (That's right- 50 cents!) and so many other steals here over the years....
Just like any other outlet store, the selection can vary from day to day, and contains many off-season items (like closeouts on shorts in the winter, etc.) so I'd say that if you need any sports apparel, swing by here first-- you could get an incredible steal....
One more thing about here-- they often alternate their discounts on items, like a couple of weeks 25%off, then 50% off two weeks after that, then 70% off after that-- so keep checking the store for when they have the maximum discount offered.... I've seen discounts as large as 75%! One of the best kept clothing secrets in Indy!
Meijer Pharmacy
Meijer is a great place to find whatever you need, whether it is food, clothes, electronics, sporting goods, or home furnishings....
I've shopped here many times and the best thing is that you'll find name-brand items for great prices! Sure, Walmart may have cheaper shoe prices, (for example) but they are their own generic name-brands, not Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Converse, etc that Meijer perfers to carry.... This idea is the theme throughout the store.
I'd recommend that if you want to buy anything "brand-name", save yourself some time and check Meijer first, instead of hitting the malls or other speciality stores.
Texas Roadhouse
I've probably eaten at this restaurant over 10 times, and I'll start out by saying that this is one of the most popular steakhouses I've ever seen-- with people waiting for over an hour on Saturday evenings!!!
The Steak entrees are very good, in fact the best value is the Sirloin selections.... Food is very tasty in general, and the prices are great-- I believe $13.99 for a 12-ounce Sirloin dinner with 2 sides! Most items I've had are cooked perfectly.
Having said this, Roadhouse isn't perfect-- in fact, the place is downright LOUD!!!! If you're lookin' for a quiet dinner, this is NOT the place.... Overall, service has been a little spotty, with a couple of meals the manager has had to pick up due to poor food quality or messing up the order twice! Not all menu items are great-- the burger served there downright sucks-- no other way to put it.
I'd say checkout Roadhouse if you're in Avon, and you want a good steak dinner, but watch the service and be prepared for the noisy surroundings.....
Applebee's
I've eaten at Applebee's and for the most part, the service is good and the food is good, with some entrees very good. One big thing these guys have gotten famous for is their happy hour specials, which works out to being 1/2 price on all appetizers, which makes it a good place to hit up after work.... A good item to get during this time is their deluxe nachos which are very good.
As far as meal items, I'd try the Quesadilla burger, which combines my two favorite tastes-- a good burger and Mexican-style cuisine-- If you like these tastes, you're in for a treat.
Other Applebee's meals are very good also and another thing they are good at is keeping the meal price reasonable but offering original entrees. Compared to the Speedway location's next door neighbor (Grindstone Charley's) they are head and shoulders better in service and food.
Grindstone Charleys
I've eaten at Grindstone's at this location (and others thru the years) and for some reason, everytime I go back, (maybe once every year or so) the service and food just keep getting worse! I ordered a burger, fries, and grand nachos. The burger and fries weren't even as good as Hardees-- which in my opinion is great for fast food, but very average for a "sit-down burger"-- and the nachos were standard, and just didn't have a lot of quality to them either. Combine all this with paying about $10-$13 per person a meal makes this a serious disappointment. I'm sure there has to be something good on the menu, just I haven't found it yet!
The only way I want to return to Grindstone is to grab a beer, certainly not for their food. I would only end up going in here if I had to.
