We had our rehearsal dinner at the Mt. Vernon Inn and had a wonderful time. The atmosphere with the candles was beautiful. The waiters were friendly. All of the food was good, but my favorite part was the caesar ("tavern") salad - the best you will ever eat.
Tasty food, large portions, average prices, good customer service. We go back frequently to eat in or take out. There is never a wait. I recommend the cashew chicken.
Balduccis has the BEST bagels (and I am a bagel expert!). They also have a good selection of champagne. Sometimes you can catch free samples of cheesecake, hot cider and other goodies. Unfortunately it is too pricey for me to shop there regularly.
May Jewelers is right across the street from Tiffany. You probably get twice as much for your money at May. The owner promised us a great deal - sure, they all say that - but when we had my ring appraised we knew it was true. We bought my engagement ring and both our wedding bands there, and we will probably go back for gifts for special occasions. We have also been back to have my ring cleaned for free. Customer service is great once you get to speak to an owner, but don't go on a Saturday afternoon - the wait takes forever.
I had my hair and nails done for my wedding, and I brought my maid of honor. A week ahead I also tried my hairstyle with my tiara. The stylist was very friendly. The pedicure lasted for three weeks! I selected Sugar House because of their clear, user-friendly web site. The place is not cheap, but at least they post prices online so you know what to expect.
When I went to Trousseau for the first time, I was immediately impressed by their elegant selection and friendly staff. This place is perfect for hard to find sizes like mine. However it is so expensive, I only purchase something there if I can't find it elsewhere. For standard items like nightgowns, their prices are very high (not that they are overcharging - it's probably standard retail for high end items - but still expensive). I don't think they have a mailing list, so I don't know if/when they have sales.
We ordered our wedding invitations from the ETC. They arrived in only a week and were gorgeous. We received many compliments from friends and relatives. We'll be framing one with our wedding photo. The saleswoman was friendly and patient with us. I would give them five stars, but I think you could find the pattern online for less.
I bought my wedding dress at Ellie's and my tiara and bridesmaid dresses at Rosalin's. Rosalin's was by far a better experience. At Rosalin's they are friendly before and after the sale. The bridesmaid dresses were elegant, reasonably priced, and ready on time. I would have purchased my gown there, but I was looking for a bateau neckline and all they had was strapless.
The place is normally crowded, but we have not had to wait long. The food is very reasonably priced - probably the reason for the crowd. The waiters are not that friendly, but I guess you get what you pay for. I'll keep going back for my usual inexpensive gyro.
There was no wait, and the chef was friendly and amusing. We were there on our honeymoon, so they gave us free champagne. The price was about what you would expect for a Japanese steak house.
