Though the name is misleading, Casa Blanca is some of the best Mexican food around. It serves the most amazing fresh tortillas that you can see being made, and a delicioso green salsa to go along with them. The food is light and flavorful and not what you typically expect from a Mexican restaurant. The tequila shrimp in a cocunut shell was to die for.
Though the place is decorated with memorabilia from "Casablanca" the movie, it's still good fun and they have live music there occasionally too! Definitely a hidden gem on Lincoln Blvd.
Don't be fooled by the non-descript strip mall exterior. Kuru Kuru sushi has some of the freshest fish around! Located next a a cigar shop, this little Japanese place is full of a friendly staff who greet you warmly when you enter and seat you quickly. The fish they use is fresh and delicious, and they have a wide selection of sashimi and rolls or non-sushi items as well. Their specials are always changing and are always delicious, it's a great spot for lunch or dinner!
It's hard to find really good Chinese food on the westside. Hop Li is the sister restaurant of one in Chinatown, and it doesn't disappoint. The menu is very extensive, and the food is more authentically Chinese than anything around it. They always have new specials and are rated very hi in Zagat's as well as on Citysearch. I keep their menu in my car for those nights when I need some take out and it is always piping hot and ready to go when i arrive. If you live on the westside and have a hankering for some quality Chinese, try out Hop Li!
If you've never had a Thai massage, you definitely need to go to Thai Sabai. Go for the two hour massage for $85. Not only is it an incredible deal, but the bodywork they do is unparalleled. The push, they pull, they stretch, they rub. Honestly it can be painful at times, but when you stand up after you're done, your body feels like jelly because every muscle has been worked deeply. Whenever I am feeling tight or need some knots worked out, this is the place I go. I know that pain is part of it, and for some reason they manage to hit knots i didn't even know I had, but it's just the best feeling when you leave. This is NOT a relaxing massage, don't expect that!
If you can find their unassuming green awning, you will get one of the best massages in Los Angeles.
This Busby's is a great addition to the Miracle Mile. The bar is large with televisions all over the place, great for sporting events. Off to the side is a large event room which can fit a few hundred people. It's great for Legendary Bingo or any event you have that needs a central location. It's trendy, it's fun, and the bartenders make good drinks. What more could you ask for?!
To say Pink Taco is authentic Mexican is to say that PF Chang's is authentic Chinese. It's mainly Mexican inspired food, but that doesn't make it any less delicious. The menu isn't huge, but the food is flavorful and very filling. The drinks are great. The Pink Taco margarita is very strong (I watched the amount of tequilas that were poured in and realized I should only have one since I was driving home!) and the raspberry mojito is delicious as well.
The atmosphere is young and hip, with music blasting, you get a lot of talent agency people there in the evening since CAA and ICM are across the street. The staff is all attractive, especially one of the bartenders. And who doesn't like to be served by a hot bartender? They know their audience well.
I grew up near a Longs Drugs in Northern California so I'm very used to the quality and service at the store. There's something very welcoming about the place, even though it's just a drugstore. Everything is easy to find and organized well. The staff is always courteous and helpful. They actually ask you if you need any help or if they can help you find anything before you have to ask. Their pharmacists are friendly and remember you even if it's been months since you were last there. And if you switch a prescription there from another pharmacy, they give you a $30 gift card! Can't beat that!
Fiesta Cantina is a local hangout for the gay guys in West Hollywood. The best thing about it is that drinks are 2 for 1 between 10pm and 12am, allowing you to reach that buzz faster and not spend as much as you would at other bars next door. Plus the boys are always hot there. It gets busy quick, so get there early for a night of fun.
As soon as I took my first bite of the tuna tartar appetizer at Encore, I was hooked. As it melted in my mouth atop a lightly fried waffle cut potato chip, I was amazed that such an unexpectedly great restaurant was in Memphis. The generously portioned pork chops were divine, as were the roasted veggies underneath. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food and the atmosphere was incredibly pleasant. Located next to The Peabody, Encore gets a lot of the finer clientele, but their reasonable prices make it accessible for everyone in town.
I was working in Memphis for a few months and everyone said I had to try out Rendezvous. I normally don't believe hype, but it definitely lived up to everything that had been said. The dry rubbed ribs were unlike any ribs I have ever experienced. Incredibly flavorful, delightfully tender, and with a side of coleslaw that was phenomenal. I went there multiple times while I was there, and if you are in Memphis for any length of time, definitely try it out!
