Lisa's Bar & Restaurant has the best fried chicken you could possibly ever have. I've used Lisa's to cater a couple of events and the chicken is always the first to go. On a nice, warm, sunny day, take a drive to "Rocher" and stop in at Lisa's Bar. Old, old, old building, but very cool, too.
The food at Mueth's Tavern is very good. The building itself you can tell is very old, but definitely serves it's purpose. I've never been in the place when the people weren't friendly and ready to make you laugh. Mueth's is all about having a good time. If you go to eat and the cucumbers are in season, you have to try the cucumber salad. Mmmmmm good!
The Courthouse Cafe & Collectibles is a quaint little cafe in the heart of downtown Waterloo, that serves breakfast and lunch. Their biscuits and gravy are wonderful & you must try the Milky Way Latte! Restaurant is very clean.
JV's is another one of those little hidden great places. Usually only the locals are in JV's because if you're traveling through Waterloo, you would completely miss one of the best places to eat. JVs is reasonably priced, and the employees are very friendly. Not sure if the kitchen is open 7 days a week - make sure you call first.
I have dealt with vets in the past that made you feel stupid when it came to an animal being ill. A friend of mine recommended Waterloo Animal Hospital to me a while back. Oh, my gosh, the veterinarians at this hospital are wonderful! Unfortunately, I've had the pleasure of dealing with almost everyone of the vets now. The "bedside" manners these vets have is amazing. They comfort you when you need comfort and you know your pet or livestock is going to receive the best care they can provide. They have never been wrong in the diagnosis of any of my pets' illnesses. From large animals - cattle & horses - to my cats, these guys/gals are great! The only animal (if you want to call him that) was my daughter's pet mouse, Trigger, that they didn't provide care for. He was a little too little - and a mouse. Dr. Mueller & Dr. Blake have earned my respect 10 times over.
The sales clerks or associates are extremely helpful and really know about the equipment (ie: cell phones) that they sell. We live in an area where our cell phones only worked if you were standing on your head with one arm sticking out. The sales associate we worked with knew exactly which one of the million phones they had for sale would work when and where we needed it to. Kudos to the clerks at the Waterloo AT&T store.
And this is the place to find your treasure. If you have a kid going away to college, you can supply the dorm room with items from here. The old train depot is packed full of "stuff". From clothes to skateboards; from toasters to couches, this is the place to find goodies. Not only is the stuff inexpensive for those on a very tight budget, but the proceeds go for a good cause. Everyone should shop here at least once and drop off donations at least once, too.
Dr. Maack removed a spot on my face that I was concerned about. One of my BFF recommended Dr. Maack because he is a plastic surgeon and she knew he would be just as concerned about the scaring on my face as much as I was. The spot he removed was as big as a nickel, and now you can't even tell where it was. No scars! And talk about down to earth. Dr. Maack didn't make me feel uncomfortable like many doctors do. No question was a silly question and he made sure I understood all the answers to all my questions. Dr. Maack is very personable and really knows his stuff! Thank you Dr. Maack for the job well done! For the most part, the office staff was very friendly.
If you are starving, this is the place to go! The food comes in huge quantities - you must bring your appetite or it's a waste of money. The service is great - the wait staff is great! If you are an out-of-towner like I am, it's worth the drive.
Tequila's is a great place for Mexican food. The chips and salsa you get as soon as you sit down is hard to stop eating. I always order the same thing every time I'm at Tequila's - the shrimp, chicken, beef fajitas. Always have left overs and that's even without using the fajita wraps. The service is really great. This is a hot spot on weekend nights - the place is always crowded. Restaurant is very clean.
