While the food at all Palmer's location is good, I will not be back to this loation. The space is too small for its customer base. Also, it a place where you order at the counter, it is best not to ignore your customers or stare at them blankly. Bottom line, good food, but not worth the hassle or the wait.
Located on the South side, Skip's is never first in my mind, but I am always happy when someone suggests it. It is quite dark inside, but the wood paneling is beautiful. The food is always fresh and portions are a good size. Lunch is always busy and once your order the Shrimp Club or one of their amazing salad, you will know why.
The quaint shop offers gelato, choclate and coffee drinks. The aroma in Stam will make you see stars! The fine hand crafted chocolate may cost more than a hershey's bar at your local grocery store, but the real handcrafted chocolate is worth the price. They can make custom molds and decorations for special orders.
Light, refreshing and full of flavor! With over 100 menu items it may take some time to find your number. The service cen be so-so or even nonexistant when they are busy, but take out is always great. When they said it will be ready in ten mintues, they really mean twenty. This is one of the few places in town to get bubble tea!
The 10 week workout gets results. Period. Their customer service is well, nonexistant. I know they have made some improvements to the area that were much needed- it was quite dirty when I frequented the place. The coaches can be hit or miss, so find a class you like and stick with it.
I often overlook this place even though it is just around the corner! Althought it does not stand out, it does have consistantly good bagel sandwiches. I have recently been going more often because of a promotion. When you order you get a seale envelope to bring back the next month with an unknown discount. If you can manage to hang onto the envelope it is a goo deal! Patries are a bit lacking, I would turn the corner and cruise down to La Mie bakery for fresh ones.
Baratta's as worth a visit tothe South side. Parking can be tight so get there early (during lunch). Prices are reasonable, but hte atmosphere is lacking. Serivce can be hit or miss, but it seems everyone in the place knows each other! Try the chicken sandwhich, it is garlicy and good. They are also good at catering if you have a party coming up.
The atmosphere is amazing in this old house and the food and service follow suite. The wine list is extensive as is the reserve list. If you are not familiar with Italian wines, ask the bartender for help, he is also the wine rep. that sells the cafe it's wine. Dinner with wine can be pricey, but it is well worth it.
Don't except the world when walking into Noah's. Noah's is in his late 80's and not much has changed since he stared the business about 60 years ago. They have a great sunken bar, the food is decent and they are open late, a plus in a city that closes at 10 pm! Definitley worth a try just for the expereince of a Des Moines landmark.
The owner loves fun, flirty dresses and her inventory is almost all dresses. There are tons of labels that are new or hard to find in Iowa. Do not go in thinking you will find a bargin though as dresses are pricey, but they are well worth the investment. Plus- sip champagne while you ship!
