Villa Florence Hotel
First - I will say that the beds are comfortable and the room is clean. But I was in a tiny, cubical sized room with paper thin walls. I could not order any food because the phone was out, and the shower leaked. After my stay, I did complete the survey, and they addressed the concern, which is why I am still rating this as a 'satisfactory' hotel - I am convinced that I was an exception.
Hotel Spero
The walls were a bit thin, so if you're a light sleeper it might not be the place for you, but that is the case with most hotels in this area. The Kimpton hotel has its standard animal print robes, which are always fun. However, I don't know that it was as nice as other Kimpton properties I have stayed at.
Grand Hyatt San Francisco
This is walking distance to Union Square, Financial District, and Chinatown (among some other places). Great sleeping rooms and there is also a good bar with decent food if you don't want to venture out late.
St Regis
This hotel is gorgeous, and the service is definitely in the St Regis class, if not better. Definitely the more expensive option when staying in the city, but if luxury is what you want, luxury is what you will get!
Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf Hotel
The rooms here are on par with a Sheraton - the location is what you want this place for. Walking distance to everything on Fisherman's Wharf, and even some other places.
Lou and Mickey's
I remember this place as being GREAT and then went back and thought it was GOOD. The thing to remember is that even though it seems like a good idea to sit outside, it's right next to the train, so you hear a whistle about every 5 minutes (and this is a LOUD whistle). But it's a great atmosphere, and definitely makes me think of San Diego.
Marriott-San Diego Gaslamp
The rooms are a good size, with great views. My favorite part of this hotel is their rooftop bar. If I remember correctly, we could see all the way over to Petco park at night.
Mondrian Hotel Scottsdale (CLOSED)
...or should I say retro-modern (if that's a word)? This hotel is in a great spot to get around Old-Town Scottsdale. I liked the staff there, and it isn't as pretentious as some of its contemporaries.
Picazzo's Organic Italian Kitchen
Mostly their pizza - because that's what I always order. I have never actually sat down in their restaurant, but I love the atmosphere when I pick up my take-out. The staff seems so friendly too. But - they are known for their pizza, so I will recommend that.
Camelback Inn, A JW Marriott Resort & Spa, Scottsdale
The casita-style rooms are a nice change from the typical hotel, and the golf courses (2 of them) attached to the resort are also great. Summer pricing here is great!
