Za's Brick Oven Pizza
I have to say I love good pizza...and Za's has some mighty fine pizza! There are so many ways you can create your pizza-to-order, and I never tire of trying to come up with a combination that's a little different but still yummy. They have a nice wine list and a pleasant atmosphere, too. And you can't forget to try them at lunch, when the special price for a pizza, soup/salad, and drink is under $7.
Yesterday's Restaurant
I usually stick with the Tex-Mex items when I come here, as it's more of a Southern home cookin' place, and that's not high on my list of favorites. They do offer a fresh veggie plate which is not too bad, but the menu is really geared towards serious carnivores. Service is good, as are prices.
Solstice Kitchen
I have only had good experiences here. Yes, it costs a bit more than some of the unimpressive stuff that passes for a meal in many Columbia restaurants, but the offerings are unique and delicious, and the wine list is impressive. The multi-course evenings are a great excuse to indulge your palate.
Terra Restaurant
I highly recommend Terra. Now, I usually bypass the appetizers to focus on their great seafood offerings or pizza and a nice glass of wine or two. (I do wish they had more "by the glass" possibilities, but what they do have is very good.) The presentation of the dishes is always quite pleasing. My experience is that you really can't go wrong here, no matter what you order.
Tombo Grille
I could make a meal out of their tapas offerings! They also have several really tasty salads--my favorite is probably the baby greens with oranges, goat cheese, and toasted almonds. Entrees are refreshingly different from the usual fare; I tend to gravitate towards the Tombo-rito or the Grilled Salmon. This is a very popular spot, so get your reservations in early!
The Gourmet Shop Cafe
The vegetarian offerings here are exceptional. The Vegetarian Lasagna is consistently delicious, and the Black Bean and Corn Wrap is a real treat. The Veggie Choice sandwich uses goat cheese and is very enjoyable. I have not tried them for brunch, but I can't imagine the food not being great then, either. The waitstaff are very friendly and attentive. This is a fun Five Points eatery!
The Gourmet Shop
You could get lost exploring the wonders of this place! They carry top-of-the-line cookware and tableware, and I love picking up pieces of handpainted dinnerware to add to my collection. Not only do they offer everything for the cook, they have an extensive selection of wines and cheeses and "to go" items, and they will make up baskets to your specifications for gift giving.
DiPrato's
Di Prato's is great for an out-of-the-ordinary lunch. Their grilled portabella sandwich is mouthwateringly good, and there's a nice selection of desserts, too.
Immaculate Consumption
For a casual breakfast or lunch, the Immaculate Consumption is divine...as long as a bunch of other folks didn't decide they wanted to come at the same time you did. It can get a little crowded, but the coffee is great and the food is a good deal and well-prepared. Oh, and don't go on the weekends, because it's closed then.
Mo Mo's Bistro
MoMo's is definitely one of Columbia's better eating places. It's Southern cooking with a French twist, kinda upscale, and always tasty. The halibut is exceptional, as is the lobster mac and cheese.
