My very first experience with Harper's was at lunch time, and the service and food were solid. Most of the times I have gone there with friends since then, though, the service has bordered on lousy and the food has been somewhere between OK and intolerable. Not my favorite place, particularly for dinner.
This is a great music store--carries vinyl, CDs, DVDs, both new and gently used. Local artists can make their music available on consignment, and Manifest actively supports homegrown talent. The selection is awesome, and it's definitely not a mall-music-store clone!
Maxine is fantastic! I heard about her through a doctor friend of mine, because Maxine offers a yoga class that is geared towards people under stress. This class has been such a gift. Maxine is very sensitive to people with physical and other limitations and is an incredibly encouraging person. She also has a great sense of humor. Increase your flexibility without feeling like you have to be a model yoga student!
I enjoy all three galleries at City Art, but my favorite has to be the Small Art Gallery, because that's where I can pick up a really cool piece for my house---a painting, a sculpture, a unique ceramic item, a photograph. It is so wonderful to be able to experience the work of so many artists in the Main Exhibition Hall and the Second Level Gallery. (Oh, and the artists out there will love the complete supply store on the grounds as well.)
Didn't you always wish you could pull off some cool sleight of hand trick to amaze your friends? Well, Columbia Magic wants to make sure you can. They have all the basic stuff, plus they have some neat "up close" prestidigitation, like flaming business cards. They have stage illusions also, but those are a bit more expensive. The folks here are so great at helping you find just what you want/need.
Belladonna's is all about spiritual/metaphysical items and is located on the USC campus. They have wonderful candles and art objects, nifty cards and wind chimes, incense, and all kinds of unique gifts. Prices are reasonable and browsing is lots of fun!
Pope-Davis has been around forever, and they've been doing fantastic brake, alignment, and other auto service work the whole time. They have several locations, but the Taylor/Forest Drive shop is the one I use. Their technicians are very knowledgeable, and they put you right at ease.
I first became aware of Jennifer when a colleague came in one day with an amazing cut and color. I immediately found out the name of the salon and stylist and set up an appointment. This salon is a little pricey, but it's worth every penny.
My company is located down the street from DeLoache and has used their services often for client floral gifts. We are very satisfied repeat customers. The flowers are consistently fresh, the arrangements are attractive, and delivery is always on time. We have never been disappointed with their work,
This bookstore offers spirituality-themed books, all kinds of soothing music, a variety of candles and incense, and handcrafted crystal pendants. There's always a special event being hosted, like Feng Shui classes, and the salespeople are a delight to talk to. Browsing in this place is loads of fun!
