I love this place! I have traveled extensively in Italy. The food was excellent (especially in Florence). I have also eaten in recommended Italian restaurants in Philadelphia, NYC, Boston -- and the food at Salvatore's was very comparable (excellent) -- even to that in Italy. Everything at Salvatore's is homemade. The sauces are memorable and the portions are large. It's certainly FAR BETTER than the chain restaurant food provided by fake Italian restaurants like Olive Garden. I actually like the dated decor. It's a real throwback to the days of Sinatra and the Rat Pack, when the restaurants really knew how to serve good food and drinks (and the cocktails at Salvatore's are made by pro bartender's who know their trade). This is a real honest-to-goodness gem; an example of the way restaurants used to be, and are (today), sadly, only in the movies. We can't wait to go back.
