If you're vegan/vegetarian, be sure to ask for the veg. menu -- it's an entirely separate menu with almost all of the same dishes, only using fake meats (mostly seitan-based) instead of the real deal. This is tasty, very fast food for a reasonable price.
49er has a way better selection then Blockbuster -- it's not even a close contest. Also, the Midnight Madness deals on weekend nights are pretty fantastic if you're planning on watching more than a couple movies over the weekend. Or, split the deal with a few friends!
The prices at Oxford Parkside are slightly higher than elsewhere in town, but it's so worth it -- first off, you are ridiculously close to campus and the University Mall; secondly, the units here are quite spacious and well-managed. Additionally, there's a nice pool on the complex and there's a cute park with a "big kid's playground" right behind the parking lot. A very quiet, safe, and pleasant place to live.
The food here is good and I always leave satisfied, but I wouldn't say it stands out among other Asian eateries. That being said, the prices are right and the Buddha's delight is delicious!
Best ice cream I've had anywhere, ever. They have traditional flavors as well as some very creative concoctions that will make a decision nearly impossible -- but samples are handed out gladly, and there's really not a bad choice! Be sure to check out the cute train that runs around the ceiling too.
The lunch buffet can't be beat. If you go on a weekend afternoon, it's a bit more expensive but the buffet is larger. It can get crowded, especially on Sundays, so be prepared for that. Ordering from the menu doesn't disappoint either. If you're not sure what to choose, try one of the combination platters -- a good sampling of some of the more popular fare. It's pricier, but it's worth it and you'll almost surely end up with leftovers for a tasty lunch the next day!
While I don't have much experience with their cafe, I highly recommend their catering services. They have a huge selection for reasonable prices and everything is so delicious. They do the set-up and clean-up very quickly and quietly so that you can deal with all of the last-minute chores for your event. Such a relief! Also, if you choose to order tea and/or water bottles, they will only charge you for the number that you use, rather than the quantity you request.
I bought my mattress from Matthews when I first moved to Davis. I had actually first started looking for a bed in Sacramento, but I'm glad I eventually landed on this place. Hans was very attentive in helping me find the mattress that best suited me. Once I picked out the mattress I wanted to buy, he even matched a lower price that I had seen on a similar mattress in Sac. He scheduled the delivery and set-up based on my schedule. The movers came, set up the mattress and bed frame exactly where I wanted it, and were out the door in a matter of minutes. Very impressive! I highly recommend shopping here. Oh, and the mattress that I bought here is absolutely heavenly...I'm spoiled for life!
I agree that the space for the store is small, but I've always found the Yolo SPCA thrift store to be well-stocked without being disorganized or chaotic (which tends to happen with thrift stores). I think that in particular they're a good place for kitchen supplies and other household necessities. If you're interested in furniture, be sure to check out back where they keep most of their stock (usually covered to protect from weather). With regards to donations, if you call ahead they'll let you know what they're currently accepting.
Huge facility is well-maintained and clean. The prices are pretty reasonable, although there are somewhat limited hours for public skate (check the calendar on their website). On Friday and/or Saturday nights, they tend to have some sort of theme for the public skate -- one time there was fresh snow to play in, and another time I got a free hot cocoa with admission...both were nice little "extras" to a fun evening.
