Better than being at the Eagles game if that's what you are looking for on a Sunday. Other big local sports events can be just as entertaining. The beer selection is good. The waitstaff and bar staff is reliable. The food is even better. Go there for dinner any night with no big sports events going on & it's just a great local restaurant with an excellent chef. Anything on the menu is good - fish & chips, Portobello mushroom anything, wings, best soups are some of my favorites.
If you want to find great, quality toys for imaginative or educational play, head for O'Doodles Toy Store. My daughter always has a fun time in the store because they have play spaces for kids. They also have a few books. Very nice gift wrapping is included with any purchase - it's always well-done & a great time-saver for busy parents. We buy most kid party birthday presents there. They also have an upstairs space that can be used for special events. An added summertime bonus is that it's right down the street from one of the best playgrounds in Philadelphia - Jenks (not open to the public during school hours).
I have been going to Twisters Wellness Centers in Erdenheim, PA and Butler, PA for over 2 years. The yoga spaces are good sized and well equipped. The lobby areas outside the studio rooms are roomy and neatly designed. The instructors are knowledgeable. The prenatal yoga instructor that I had was engaged, positive, and added a personal and interactive feel to the class. The hot yoga room in Erdenheim is nice. I felt surprisingly comfortable during the hot yoga class and the instructor was good. The spinning room in the Butler studio is also clean, well-equipped and well-staffed. I have not tried the Pilates Reformer, but the studio offers training sessions on any new element they offer so it's welcoming that I could try anything new at any time. The payment options are convenient, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the spaces are excellent.
A cute coffee shop and cafe in the heart of Mt. Airy. If you need a change of scenery for work, stop in with your laptop for a cup of joe. I take my 5 year-old daughter there for a Pooh Bear warm milk drink with honey and a sweet and crunchy treat. They have toys and books in one corner for kids. They have a second indoor seating area on the side that is not heated, but offers a nice alternative space. The outdoor patio in back is a relaxing location for a tasty summer lunch or coffee break with a friend. It's just as artsy and eclectic as the shop's interior, but has the aura of a little secret urban garden.
I have been taking my five-year-old daughter to Trim and Proper (formerly Cookie Cutters) of Chestnut Hill for the past 3 years. She loves it and looks forward to it - it's a special treat. I think the price is fine, especially for the treat she thinks it is. The hair cut is less than half the cost of my hair cut which I think is reasonably priced. The kids can play with toys while they wait. They get to sit on the vehicle or animal of their choice during the hair cut and watch a DVD. My daughter has long, straight hair that is not thin. It needs to be cut in layers which the stylists always do well. During our last visit, the stylist suggested some layers to help with tangles. Stylists have always answered my questions knowledgeably and helpfully - giving suggestions to eliminate breakage, help with styling and tangles. I take my daughter for bang trims in between full haircuts at a reduced price. She still gets a helium balloon and little lollipop at the end of every visit. I've heard that some other local parents don't go there because of a slightly higher cost. However, I think it's worth it for a fun and enjoyable treat for your child - especially if it can turn a potentially difficult experience into a fun one. Trim and Proper of Chestnut Hill is a clean, fun kids' salon that gives good cuts.
Robertson's is a beautiful florist in Philadelphia's Chestnut Hill neighborhood. The staff is helpful and prompt. I went in on the morning of Administrative Professionals' Day having forgotten to purchase a gift for my division's administrative professional. I was running late because the first florist that I tried was closed so I turned around to come back to Robertson's. They kindly helped me find an appropriate gift within my price range: a three-item package that I selected with the staff's help and direction. They also quickly assembled a unique bud vase to include in the gift. She loved the gift! The store is beautiful inside and out, it has a nice variety of items, and is a pleasure to shop in.
