I'm just guessing, because I used Dr. Purdom for the first time last year (in 2009).
He delivered our fourth child. I know he also delivered my cousin who is around 35 years old, so I know he must be close to retirement.
I feel very good about seeing a doctor with a lot of experience, so it was comforting that he's been around for a long time here in Whittier and I'd heard good things.
I mainly saw his daughter at the clinic. She was very friendly but accidentally prescribed be the wrong beta blocker for pregnancy induced high bp. Thankfully, the pharmacist caught it and said its not safe to take while pregnant. Yikes.
Dr. Purdom was just very forgetful on a lot of occassions during those 6 months. The morning after my delivery, he did the routine checkup at the hospital (just hours after my delivery) and said all kinds of weird stuff (confusing me with another lady altogether??), and then just walked out, probably embarrassed. He was giving me instructions as if I'd had a C section, things like that. Forgot to do the tubal ligation, so they took out my epidural, is another thing that comes to mind.
When I saw the video of the birth I gasped because I am NOT exaggerating. He came VERY close to dropping my son, who I guess shot out quicker than the doctor anticipated. I recall him saying something like "whoa!, whoa!" but not until I viewed it did I realize that he BARELY grabbed my son, who could have suffered a serious injury if he'd been dropped head first at that speed.
So the doctor had me bring my son to his office later for circumcision. I have another son and I also helped raise 3 of my brothers. The foreskin on this baby is still over the tip of the penis! I think its so weird, having to pull back the skin of a circumsized baby. The pediatrician agreed but said he must not have cut enough skin and that hopefully it will be alright later as the baby grows. Hopefully. /:
