This is a great little surfshop for your basic surf needs. The staff is friendly enough for the kooks out there, and they don't come across with the condescendence you find at most shops near the water.
Karina's Taco Shop
In San Diego, the rule of thumb is the taco shop food gets worse the further North you wander. Karina's is the exception. Typical taco shop, but this one has a jukebox which is a nice bonus. Try the shrimp burro with a sangria.
Chai's Island Bistro
Great food, but really pricey. They make up for it by offering the best local island entertainment with your meal. The coffees are served in French presses, which is a nice touch.
Old Town Liquor & Deli
Great for wine and liquor - awesome selection. The cigar selection is not so good, and the "humidor" seems a little suspect - price and selection wise. The hidden jewel here is their deli - easily the best set of sandwiches at even better prices. They make them to order, just as you like them - try the Leatherneck on sourdough...good times.
George J. Chionis, DDS
His office also came across very "salesy". They sold me an automatic flosser for $20 that I found at Target a few months later for half that. They told me although my insurance covers two cleanings a year, they recommended I come in four times a year. The work I had done there was really good, and they managed the pain very well...but I walked away feeling I paid too much out of my own pocket.

Dr. Anshel's office is a straightforward, efficient office. I have nothing but the best compliments for the quality of the examinations and subsequent products (i.e. glasses/contacts) I have purchased through them. He is a published author on the subject of computer eye-strain, which is a bonus given the time I spend in front of a monitor.

Both Dr. Howards are an asset to the Spring Valley area. Their service and staff are some of the best I've seen in dental offices throughout San Diego. Everyone is easy going, and all procedures are well explained before they are performed. Also, they are realistic in your dental needs, never using fear as a motivation to have procedures done.
Bonded Cleaners & Laundry
I found this place after moving to the Spring Valley area. The thing that struck me the most was they actually asked how I wanted my shirts starched. Seems trivial, but to me it showed an interest in what they produced. My clothes come back smelling fresh and neatly pressed. They also offer tailoring, which I used and was also happy with.
