Tony's seems to get the "best of" newspaper awards and many reviews here are very complementary. I can only speak of my own experiences. Seems to be a place where you either Love it or Hate it...
We have eaten here twice, both at dinnertime and both when the dining room was about 2/3-3/4 full. There seemed to be sufficient Servers to deal with their assigned tables.
This narrative relates to the second dinner at Tony's the first was very much the same. The service was slow but no mistakes were made. If it had been a tad slower the servers would have arrived at an empty table.
The steamed dumplings were good but we waited a long time for our server to venture past [we had to flag the server down to ask how our order was progressing]. It finally arrived, my shredded Beef in garlic sauce was tough and stringy and if there was any garlic in the sauce it was powdered and in micro quantities. My Wife ordered the Scallops with peas. Her scallops were few in number and had a sharp aftertaste reminiscent of Adolph's Meat Tenderizer and her peas were a dark soggy green over-steamed.
One of the few times we didn't ask for a doggy bag to take the leftovers home for another round. We didn't want them. I had to stand up and walk about to get the server's attention so the check could be dealt with.
We enjoyed attentive service in a clean establishment. Of course we were the only guests at the time, our first visit was a Tuesday at 5 PM. I hope they attract more customers as we intend to return and try other menu items.
We enjoyed the crab dumplings & golden bag appetizers. I devoured the mock duck while my wife had the green curry salmon. Both were very good and the prices were reasonable. The hot tea was delicate with a clean finish and most enjoyable!
Only visited once, we live in Lancaster but we intend to eat here the next time we are in the W-B.
Excellent service. The Waitress was somewhat shy but very efficient and the bar tender stopped by twice to be sure we were being well taken care of. We ate in the adjacent dining room separate from the bar.
Salsa Verde is outstanding, soft carnitas & carne asada tacos [shredded pork & grilled steak] were wonderful, I also had the Bistec Enchiladas [beef] while my Wife enjoyed the Bistec Encebollado [grilled steak w/onions].
Only one visit so not a good indication of their staying power but the food was very good, the prices were excellent and the service was caring while not overwhelming. We'll be back!
Order from the menu. During lunch time they pre-bake pizzas and lay them out for you to take various slices but they dry out quickly and I've seen a fly or two...
Their Strombolis and Calzones are very good. Pasta dishes are good also. Order the Sausage or Veal Parmesan subs.
This place gets busy at lunch but they do a good job of serving you. It's a bit noisy but calms down after 1 PM.
My fav is the blue cheese burger. Also wonderful fries, hot and cold hoagies, chicken cheese steaks, cheese steaks, greek salads, and fast/caring service. Eat in or take away.
I love the hot Manayunk [steak, provolone & onions], the cold Brooklyn [prosciutto ham, provolone, roasted peppers & basil], the vegie Madison Ave [goat cheese, roasted peppers, cukes & spring mix].
Hand cut french fries freshly made upon order. Grilled wraps & homemade style soups. I love this place!
Lunch is best, the owner, Bill Thomas, is always running the show and you'll get excellent food. I've ordered dinner and late night and sometimes the younger help is less than helpful and skimp on the food. Otherwise I'd have rated this establishment a five star. Between 11 AM to 3 PM it is a five star?
I've waited 28 years for someone in Lancaster County to make me a real Pastrami Sandwich, not a Corned Beef sandwich for a dollar fifty more that they??ll argue with you that it is really Pastrami, and it was worth the wait! They serve excellent Corned Beef, Brisket, Salami, Chopped Liver, Bagels, Lox, too.
A wonderful selection of high quality foods, the rye bread is to die for and the owners are most amusing, entertainment while your order is expertly assembled!
They've only been open a few months and it has become my favorite lunch stop and I understand the smiles when I see people leaving after having eaten.
Not a sports bar fan but I make the LD the exception because of the food, service and prices. They even sport a children??s' menu.
They do a wonderful steak sub/cheese steak sub that has no faults. Their creative burgers are fresh meat and juicy and you can substitute chicken breast at no extra cost. The service is always very good and surprisingly it isn't a noisy environment away from the bar. Now if I can convince them to change ONE TV to PBS on a Saturday afternoon...
Inexpensive lunch buffet that actually varies its selections so you won't get the same dishes every time.
Excellent Hot and Sour Soup! I can recommend the Chicken in Garlic Sauce, Shrimp in Chili Sauce, the Garlic Pork and Governor Tso's Chicken. I've enjoyed their vegetarian Dried Cooked String Beans [yes very good and worth a try] & the Bean Curd & Mushrooms.
Very reasonable prices and you're served by the owner's family. The ambiance is a bit lacking but the food, service and prices make up for that shortcoming.
Service is always good, you're not rushed and you can enjoy the total experience. Tulip Dumplings are a wonderful start. The Swimming Rama chicken breast, Pad Thai and Basil Salmon are highly recommended. They have excellent vegetarian dishes; I only dabble but have enjoyed Buddha's Dumplings, Tofu Supreme, Jack & Sue and the Fried Banana.
They usually serve a very nice [not bitter] jasmine green tea.
Tiny corner store chock full of wonderful items a varied selection of excellent cheeses and many varieties within categories. You can have a sharp feta or one that is creamy & mild. Many EVOOs, pastas, all sorts of canned/bottled/frozen delicacies from the Mediterranean, hot sauces, herbs/spices, etc.
Very knowledgeable owners who will make very good suggestions, just tell them what you want and they'll introduce you to high quality deli items that you may have read about but hadn't actually encountered. Of course if you've moved from a large metro area you expect to find several stores like Mandros but in a city the size of Lancaster it is a treasure!
