I spent 4 1/2 months (114 days) in the hospital. The initial reason for going to the hospital was a broken ankle, but other medical concerns kept me there. All that aside, for all those months, I literally begged for relief from the pain in my neck and shoulders. I was given pain medications but nothing that could ease the pain. It kept me awake day and night, and I was unable to do the physical therapy for the recovery of the broken foot.
I had friends offer me their heartfelt sympathy and advice but none of it helped. After I returned home, my husband and I hired a massage therapist to come to our home every evening, and after 2 weeks and no relief we dismissed her and continued the pain medications which kept m so drugged I couldn't carry on a conversation with any of my family members. One evening a friend came to our house and asked if she could talk to us about acupuncture therapy that had helped her be able to continue to work. At this point, I was willing to try anything, even what seemed to me as a strange procedure that was rather scary. I just wanted to find the person I was before my original injury.
My friend game us the name and telephone number of an Acupuncture Service in Pearland. We called and made an appointment and went the next day to meet with Dan Kellams. I knew nothing about acupuncture, but I liked Dan and his concern for me and the pain I was living with, so with much apprehension I began my road to recovery. After 3 treatments the pain was gone and I could move my neck. The range of motion was back to normal, and Dan not only treated my neck pain, he also treated other medical concerns such as diabetes and irritable bowel.
Before my treatments with Dan, I felt like a burden to my entire family. They were so loving and caring, I can't imagine the hours of nurturing. My sweet husband did not leave my side for 5 months because I needed constant care. All the medical care couldn't help, but after only 3 sessions of acupuncture with Dan, we all began to see the wife, mother and grandmother we all had prayed would come back to us. There were times that I was sure I would never recover, and had lost the will to try and be the wife and mother my family needed. I have fully recovered from neck and shoulder pain and the diabetes is under control and the insulin has been decreased to almost zero.
I will continue on a maintenance program with Dan. We share my good fortune with all of our friends and extended family as well as anyone we know that is in pain. My husband and I carry business cards of Dan and let them make the decision. We tell them that Acupuncture is so much better than pain medication that only offers temporary relief and masks the cause of pain. Acupuncture therapy has cured my pain.
