Starbucks

This 'Bucks was remodeled recently. The biggest change? One of the baristas calls me "dear" after every sentence. You'd think I'd find it patronizing but instead I think it's quite school-ma'am-ly, like a matronly hug. Not that I ever went to private school in England (although it's confusingly called "public school" there, which just goes to show what can happen if you have in-bred aristocrats ruling society) but it's a friendly joint.

The coffee is Starbucks coffee: functional, serviceable, jolt-y, and often burned but acceptable if you have a caffeine need. They have several easy chairs in this place, and it's never been that busy when I've dropped by in the middle of the afternoon. So you can plomp down, whack open the laptop, and happily dab away for a while quite comfortably.

Yolanda's Maid & Maintenance and Carpet Cleaning

I live in a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment in Van Ness ave. You would think that unless we live in a penthouse apartment, were we to have a party, you wouldn't be able to fit more than 15 people comfortably. Well we did have said party. And I couldn't give you exact numbers on how many people we had in the apartment last night, but judging by the disaster zone my apartment looked like afterwards... well, have you ever seen Animal House? Ok well that wasn't our place, but it was too close for my liking

My roommates and I were in no mood to clean the apartment this morning, but we were in a little bit of a bind because my roommates' parents were coming into town Saturday night... For some reason they are doing Thanksgiving at our apartment? Anyway, we just graduated, we put ourselves in situations like this. Regardless, anticipating this situation happening, I looked up some services on Yelp, made a calculated gamble, called Yolandas / MC cleaning late Friday and they had no problem booking me for this morning.

They left a few hours ago, and without going into every little minute detail of things they cleaned and fixed, the bottom line is that I was very happy with the service. As a new graduate, I try to save money here and there as much as possible, but with how incredible the apartment looked after the service I had no problem calling them right back and opting into getting a biweekly cleaning, it looked that good. Roommates parents definitely called us out for getting a cleaning service to come (they knew we were not capable maintaining this clean an apartment). Definitely recommended.
