I was referred to Norman Regional emergency room by the urgent care I visited. I was very ill with a blocked kidney, blood pressure of 85/55 and white count of 33000. Nearing sepsis, I was rushed to emergency surgery for a stent placement and catheter to get rid of the poison in my kidney. I was hospitalized overnight after the surgery and released the next morning. My problem was not necessarily with the care I received but for the billing issues. My insurance company does not have a contract with the facility but paid as if it were in the network. Norman regional is now balance billing me $17,000 for the remainder left after the insurance company paid. 'Balance billing is a highly controversial practice and is illegal in many states. The rates they charged are exorbitant as they would except much less had they had a contract with Norman regional. I would not recommend them for this reason. I will never go there again.
