I can't believe that people of Irvine like to pay 2x & 3x the price of an El Torito for the same or slightly worse experience. Omar, the General Manager, should be shot for not knowing how to serve guest needs. I wouldn't go back for any

For years my Company and I have enjoyed Javiers. I have averaged $3000 to $5000 per year as a customer and through company events.

No more. They've been slipping recently...a bi-product of their success. Too big for their britches, they've been upping their charges, and reducing the sizes of their proportions. $90 lunch for three people, a side of lettuce for $5 that was quoted at $1. A to go order where they charged for items not included in the order. Notice on a number of dishes they have smaller plates (that look bigger). A clever technique to reduce food costs while the customers do not notice.

When I went back, driving an hour, to meet with Sylvia, their manager at Spectrum and explained the situation, I was met with defensiveness. She would not credit me for the missed order. She said she 'might' do something nice when I come back...just ask for her. When I asked her to credit me for the missed order, she said she could not do that without crosschecking with the waiter.

Give me a break!!! I've been in the hospitality business for 30 years. What part of the 'the client is always right' that this entitled manager does not understand...particularly for a loyal client that spends thousands of dollars. I tried to reason with her as a fellow service provider...no luck.

This is one gringo that will no longer spend $$$$$$ on overpriced mexican food. Hospitality is worth extra $$$$. Arrogance is worth zero.

Asta la vista Javiers.

How does a place like this stay so busy. The worst service on the planet. And the food is NOT exactly amazing.

After spending $60 on drinks and an appetizer, me and a friend were asked to finish our drinks and leave so other guests cold have the table.
To make matters worse, I called the owner to share my story. Before I can finish sharing my concerns, he interupts me to tell me his findings from talking with his staff at Irvine Spectrum. I'm told that we should have had our drinks and appetizer in the bar. Reservations aren't taken for parties of two. 2 hours was plenty of time for us to occupy a dining patio table. He no longer has time for the call and hangs up on me,
How arrogant and such a lack of knowledge about providing quality customer service. I will return to any of his restaurants.

I went to this place for my friend's husband birthday and I was told that the expensive prices are worth paying. I had a the chicken enchilada and chicken taco combination plate and it was horrible! The enchilada was dipped in a dark red sauce and it taste like ketchup. The taco wasn't that great either. I ate better tacos at Chile Verde for $2. It was not worth the $14 price that I paid! My husband ordered the quesadilla and it cost $12 dollars. That was not worth the price either. Pollo Loco and Del Taco have better quesadillas for 3/4 the price. Our party consisted of a party of 9. I looked around the table to see if the other plates looked any better than ours. All the other plates were scimpy and not much food was on the plates. My friend had a shrimp burrito that had a lot of dark stuff in it. I asked him if it was a carne asada burrito but he said it was shrimp. It did not have a lot of shrimp. The restaurant is over rated and overpriced. The price is a rip off. If you feel like wasting your money I will recommend this place. If you want good authentic Mexican food go to a place that caters in authentic Mexican food. I would recommend Acapulco, El Torito, Diana's Mexcian food, any other place but here. Don't eat here, I feel like I got ripped of.

Add to the great atmosphe a great looking crowd and awesom food - Plan on spending time in the bar before or after your meal. Highly recomend the cabo azul combo - chile relleno? Shrimp taco and other more. This is the first place to bring a new guest to the coast -- Good views from the outdoor fireplace bar.

My friends made reservations a week in advance for my bithday dinner ( A party of ten) at the Newport Beach Javier's. The valet line was a twenty minute wait and when we were finally seated it took an additional thirty minutes to get a menu. All of this would have been irritating but we there to celebrate and not complain. After paying nearly $1,000 for dinner, I went to retrieve my car only to find out that the VALET CRASHED NOT ONE BUT TWO OF OUR CARS!!!!!! After waiting for 45 minutes filling out paperwork and missing my birthday party at another location where people were waiting, I asked the manager Pepe if there was a place for my friends and I to sit and wait. He proceded to raise his voice and tell me no it wasn't his problem and there was nothing he was going to do about it! It caused a major scene. The other patrons watching him go off couldn't believe that he would be so rude after the valet just crashed two of our cars and caused a huge inconvenience! Bottom line : if Javier's wants repeat patrons who are willing to pay a little more for a nice atmosphere and great service they have to train their managers and wait staff to treat people with courtesy and respect. Pepe (the manager) has a very confrontational approach to problem solving and should be fired. He added complete insult to injury. I will never eat at Javier's again!

This review is for the new location in Crystal Cove (Corona Del Mar / Newport area)...

There is nothing but good to say about the quality, presentation, and physical environment of the restaurant itself. But it is all thrown out the window when one witnesses the pretense and arrogance of the staff. The manager of this location flew off the handle toward a group of what appeared to be very calm customers, and created a scene that was quite uncomfortable for the other patrons. From what we could see and hear, these particular customers had a bad experience with their own server (from what I heard from this server's other tables, not surprising!), and simply aired their complaint. This escalated into a defensive, shouting manager who embarrassed the entire restaurant enough to cause our own server to apologize for the situation. Our server cited a ''difficult customer.'' My response is that you'd best be REALLY EASY if you want to dine here. The manager was frightening and so out of control, I thought he was under the influence of something. Javier's immediately was surrounded by buzz of being the new ''it'' spot in our neighborhood. But word gets around when your establishment posesses such a hostile, too-cool-for-school management attitude. Unless there's a total attitude adjustment there, where a sincere appreciation is developed for its customers, Javier's will ultimately become a place where all its potential went down the drain.

I had lunch with a friend at Javier. We both had the dungeoness salad for $18, which was reasonable. I asked the server about getting a la carte tacos because we thought we might still be hungry. He mentioned "yes, we have it and its very very good with a spicy sauce with shredded cabbage." Sounded great! When we got the two a la carte tacos? The shrimp were coated in a thick batter and the shrimp were small. Two to be exact in each taco. When we got the bill the two tacos were $16. I don't mind paying for good food. But this was ridiculous, two tiny tacos for $16. If I had known it was gross tacos and expensive I would have order a full plate of something else. I asked the server he couldn't explain why it cost that much for two tiny tacos. I shouldn't have left any tips cause I was upset but I felt sorry for the server. Its not his fault for pricing something ridiculous like that.

Not only did I have to wait over an hour to be seated in a restaurant that had more than enough empty tables, but the service was absolutely terrible! The hostesses were beyond rude...the servers were unattentive and acted like they could care less if you ate in this century or not...and to top it off, when I called the manager over to my table to get some sort of apology, she just said that it was MY fault for having such a bad experience. Talk about not knowing what "the customer is always right" means. Then she says "have a nice day" after doing a poor excuse for a manager's job! I will never go there again...I'm letting all of my friends know...I would highly advise anyone reading this to go somewhere else. I've been a server before and if I were to treat ANY of my guests like that, I would've been fired. By the way...I went to Javier's on my BIRTHDAY...happy birthday to me!

A friend of mine who lives in Laguna (where the original Javier's is located) introduced me to the location at the Spectrum and I've been going ever since. The food is wonderful. A trick: when it??s crowded in the evening you can often slip into the bar area and find a small table without having to wait for seating in the restaurant.

This restaurant has great, upscale Mexican food. It's pricey, but worth it if you are looking for a trendy place to eat with friends. It is usually crowded, so expect to wait a long time if you don't have reservations. The service is not always the best, so keep that in mind if you are in a rush to catch a movie. Their margaritas are great, as well as their mole and carnitas!

While it can be a bit of a pain to get in here on the weekends, it is a great place to grab lunch and sit outside during the day on Saturday or Sunday. Get a group together of 4 or more and make a reservation and we have yet to have a problem getting in.

The servers are attentive, the food is fresh and some of the best Mexican we have eaten anywhere in the country.

Javiers newest location in the Irvine Spectrum is a TREMENDOUS find for outstanding Mexican food. A nice variety of authentic dishes are prepared to perfection. If you love chips and salsa (or guacamole) you are gonna love them here. The service is also strong. Pricing is strong as well -- and parking is a pain unless you are already planning to be at the Spectrum.

Be prepared to be treated like nothing when you decide to go to this restaurant. Our party of 6 made a reservation at 7:30 on Saturday night. We arrived early at 7:00 and we promptly informed the host that we have arrived. We ended up not being seated until 7:45 and the manager, Omar, told us "we are a very busy restaurant and all of our reservations run late." This tells me 1) your restaurant is poorly managed. There are many more high-end and busier restaurants out there that do not have any problem keeping the reservations on time. 2) your management team doesn't care and does not honor the guests who are courteous enough to make reservations. While we waited for 45 minutes for our table to be ready we were checking with the hosts on our table's status and the hostess told us "I will let you know when it's ready". This is no way to treat customers. This was a horrible dinner experience and our steak were way over cooked. Nothing was done by the management to correct the situation.

And ladies please bring your own toilet paper because the restaurant cannot keep the ladies' room stocked with the restroom essentials.

this place succks!!!! service was bad. rude host. i wanted to try something new other than yardhouse. but yeah right. there are other mexican restaurants out there who treat their guest with the utmost guest satisfaction. that's no way to run a restaurant. especially if its at the irvine spectrum. and WAY too overpriced... DONT GO HERE..

Javier's was packed with people, even on a Tuesday evening. Luckily, we reserved a room for 12 people and were seated promptly. I thought it was going to be an intimate room, but it was really loud and I wasn't able to carry a normal conversation. This place is ideal for a hip outing, but not if you want some deep conversation. The food is good, but I'm not sure if I want to pay $27 for a plate of camarones. I think you're paying more for the atmosphere.

Good Food with a Bad Experience

Our dinner was very tasty and I really enjoyed the food. All the tastes and sauces were very authentic and I like the atmosphere. What ruined it for me was at the end of the meal I found out that we were being "Charged for extra Tortillas" and we also got an explanation that they were doing us a favor by letting me pack some salsa with my doggy bag. I did not know that tortillas and salsa make such an impact on a restaurant. That's like charging extra for dinner rolls at other restaurants. I also brought my two toddlers and we got popped for mandatory 18% tip on 4 adults and 2 kids. That rent at Irvine Spectrum must be hurting them. I'm glad I did not have a second cup of water. That's too bad, the food was good too.

Walking in to Javiers gives you a good feeling....very upscale. Unfortunately, the greeter was not very friendly eventhough I had reservations. The food is excellent (My girlfriend is Mexican)....but that is where the fun stopped. First of all, we orderered 4 entrees but was only given 4 tortillas. To my surprise, we were charged for ordering 2 "EXTRA"orders of tortillas at the end of the meal. When my mother-in-law asked for a container for her salsa for her left overs, the waiter explaind that they normally dont do that because of people ordering extra salsa. Wow for a $120 bill I didn't expect to be shaken down for .75 of tortillas and .50 of salsa. To the owners of Javiers...if you cant afford the rent at the Irvine Spectrum ............M-O-V-E.

If you think Del taco, has some good mexican well think again people. Althought Del is good, nothing comes even close to Javier's Cantina and Grill. I just recently went to dinner with my boyfriend at one in the Irvine Spectrum. Food was great, the drinks were even better and the service was unbeatable. Very friendly staff. We made reservations and we were seated in less then 10 min. Great place for a nice birthday dinner or a romantic dinner for two. I am sure Javier's will please just about anyone.
