I love water taxi beach. It is always a go- to for great food and fun. The point of the strict security is that it is on NYC property and it is likely that Harry's had to have thorough security to get the contract. Just throw on a sundress and flip flops and chill. The food is worth the trip and the crowd is alwys fun and friendly. The D.Js are always fantastic.

Was invited by a friend, and had high hopes. After a long trek, we joined a line of people waiting to go through security (!?) on a sunny Sunday afternoon. We were searched and our wallets rifled through, apparently in a search for weapons and illicit substances. Then we encountered a makeshift table that had been set up to collect $40 from everyone for the pleasure of being subjected to thumping loud DJ music. When we protested that it didn't mention anything on the website about a cover charge, we were told we could sit over in a corner (with no access to food, drink, or restrooms) for free. We left. Really bad vibe all around, from the cheesy, tatooed staff to the worn down cement walls and broken fence that surround you. Perhaps it's tolerable at night.

Everything that everyone says. Laughably serious security (they take their jobs so seriously it actually made me laugh out loud which made the guy really mad), rude bartenders and management (an entire drink transaction without a word uttered on their side) and the feeling that you are just not welcome. What is going on here? Great view, great set-up, drinks, games - yet no matter what - a truly awful experience. The only hope for this place is if they sell it and new management takes over. And come on - the "security" is so over the top. I tell everyone I know who mentions going here to avoid at all costs!

The Water Taxi Beach is a great summer venue and a great way for the company to showcase their water taxi fleet. However, the security company they hired has too many unprofessional staff who miscommunicate their 'security policies' with promotors and event organizers and intentionally throw people out of the venue. Very scary and makes the whole experience unenjoyable. I will never be going back there.

I was first at harrys 2 years ago and couldnt believe my eyes. This place had finally gotten it right. Great set up, man made beach, picnic tables, great tap ber and a DJAY. Beers are cheap, i think they had PBR and Rhinegold. You can walk right up to the edge of the fence and the river is below you. By far the best view of the city I have seen. Didnt have any of the food but i did see some bugers and hot dogs. I was going to go back last week but thats when i heard people talking about the $20 cover charge. I dont know if this is true, but i would find out before i arrive. Also get there around 6pm if you want to make sure your in and if you wear anything but sandles or flip flops your an idiot.

So i have been to this taxi beach a few times this summer now and i have to say i do enjoy it. The location is the best when even i have friends in town i will always bring them there for the day or some drinks before heading out to the city. The security, i get the rules and i understand but there is a way to treat people i guess you dont get it ( even though some people are nuts). The Music is not that bad, the bar staff ,wow the blond older lady is out of her mind relax lady there are a few good bartenders the order guys & sean & jim the irish guy i think. The food i love the burger what ever sauce goes on there love it. Prices well lets look at it $6.00 for a beer not a bad price in the new york area. As for the cover charge i never like surprises like the rest of you. Its a fun place and take it for what it is. See you there this weekend.

Went to FoodMovie Festival there last nightome great movies. But I had the same id entry problems as others (I'm over 60 but they insisted as if they had the No Fly list to check me against), this from some rude, unidentifed, amateur-night security kid. That was on the way in. Later after sampling a food item, I had a severe allergic reaction (counldn't breath) and obtained water from the bar and then tried to leave the place. No, I couldnt leave with my little cup of water in hand. There I am weezing and gasping for breath and some kid moron security guy was swearing at me about his liability if I left with a cup in my hand.
The best name for this place would be knucklehead beach. They should lose their franchise and somebody with a degree of professionalism should take over the wonderful location.
I will write to Water Taxi to complain about these people.

My girlfriend and I rode our bikes to water taxi beach on saturday, right as it started to downpour. While we were locking our bikes up, we noticed that the guy at the gate(who couldnt have been more than 20 or so, was IDing these guys who appeared to be in their 40s. We thought it was strange but thought maybe he was kidding around or something, but then as it started to rain, we made our way quickly for the gate so we can get in and to the tent, but were stuck behind a (had to be) 60 something year old woman who was spending a long time searching for her ID (she probably hasnt been ID'd for a bar in decades)because he wouldnt let her in without one. He simply would not let her in and said everyone must show their ID no matter what. My girlfriend and I were pointing out how hard it was raining and to please let her in as this was a little ridiculous, and he got really aggitated made her get wet while he finally received her license and inspected it. The fact that this person was being so rude and authoritive and is in charge of who gets in and who doesnt makes me never want to go back ever again, the only reason I didnt leave then and there was becasue of the rain.

Hello Harry?
New Yorkers speaking treat your customers with respect and we will come back and treat you real well, but not until you do the same.

I visited the water taxi beach on memorial day. It was great weather, nice bartenders, and cool people hangin out at the place. But the baffeling thing is how the place can be run so poorly. I guess the view and the outdoor beachy environment is the draw but I'm not going to be returning often.

Get this one the bar charges like 5 bucks for a bottle of water, but at the food stand only 1.50 heres the real kicker the line for food took me a half hour to get through, my friends thought I got lost or something, and the place isn't that big! Just for a hot dog and a water! And the bar line was really long too. Plus the bottle of water was warm and they won't give you a cup of ice. RIDCULOUS! It was like 80 degrees outside in the hot sun.

And I would have loved to hear anything but techno blared all afternoon by the dj.

From what I've read on here and what I saw and overheard yesterday the management needs to get it together...although its apparently better than before.

I've been in the service industry on and off for 7 years and I know that a business run like this may do ok but why not put the extra effort in and make the place great.

You should know that they now scan your ID at the entrance! Which I thought was not such a bad idea at first... Until one night when my ID didn't scan.

One should know that it doesn't scan = you don't get in! The worst part is that the girl at the entrance was condescending, which I found unusual for the place. As a consequence our group went somewhere else in the neighborhood, somewhere where patronage is appreciated.

Water Taxi Beach is a place I've been hanging out for the past 2 years now and I've never had any problem. But that night, even though I was in possession of a valid NYS ID (and I'm 31!) I was denied access to it. We all found it really frustrating. To the point that we're contemplating if we'll ever go there again.

It's a shame because I like the place and the people. I understand the Beach has to comply to NYS law, but turning down regular customers/neighbors with valid ID is not the way to go.

I went there on a Saturday afternoon in July to celebrate my Birthday with friends. For some reason they were not serving food. The staff was clueless leading us to believe they were going to fire up the grill at some point but never actually did. There was no notice regarding the lack of food on the premises or online, and of course we were not allowed to bring in our own food. As a result my party was a bust because we were starving. After 3.5 hours of drinking on a empty stomach I noticed a different grill was fired up so we got excited at the prospect of food. Once we made our way up a very loooong line we were told this food was for online pre-orders only. Are you kidding me? I really wanted to believe that all the poor reviews were related to evening post PS1 warm up parties. Sadly, I was mistaken. AVOID until the management wakes up or sells to someone who cares.

I Love everything about this place and have always had a positive experience until last night when I was escorted out for doing something that EVERYONE around me was doing. I left quietly and told her I need to use the bathroom. She said to go across the street and that I needed to be escorted COMPLETELY off the premises. The Female security guard must of had something against me because not only did she make me leave, she was obnoxious about it and as we were leaving we passed several people who were partaking in the same thing I was getting kicked out for. When I tried telling her that, she said she didn't care. I tried telling the other guards what happened and she called for back up. I am no criminal and don't appreciate being treated like one, especially by someone who is biased against other women. As you can tell from the other reviews, this place needs to reconsider who they hire and either strictly enforce the rules or not, no in between! That's fair! I have never been so humiliated in my life. Bet that guard felt great after that! Isn't it nice to have power?

The concept of the place is great....a bar/dance floor on a manmade beach facing the Manhattan skyline...fabulous!

C'mon Harry (if that is your real name), you need to step it up! The potential is there at Water Taxi Beach. The view is gorgeous and it's just nice to sit on that sand and have a drink or maybe dance with the breeze hitting you. But some things need to be changed.

Here are my suggestions for you Harry, now listen up:

1-Stop charging an arm and a leg for drinks! A tiny cup of beer is NOT worth $6! And stop watering down your already over-priced drinks. This why you have the problem of people not buying your booze or, worse yet, bringing in their own!

2-The line for food/drinks is obscene! You have the space to place another concession stand....so set it up! This would also help disperse the crowd.

3-Some lighting would be nice. Besides the tent where people dance there is no other lighting. Yes, the sky is moon lit and the darkness is romantic/mysterious/whatever but I hate stumbling over people who are sitting on the sand!

4-Get a good DJ and keep him employed! Sometimes the music is good, sometimes not. Remember, People dancing = good. People not dancing = bad.

5-Get someone to clean up the sand. I know you probably have staff who clean it up when the place shuts down but what about all those cups and trash that I stumble over when the place is open (did I mention the lighting issue?).

6-STOP OVER-CHARGING FOR DRINKS!

All around awful experience. Poorly managed, rude staff. Bartender had major attitude. This is not some megaclub, and you can afford to be a little more down to earth. I asked her about what looked like some frozen margarita machine. Her curt reply? "Broken". She ignored us for a good long while and took people's orders who got to the bar after us. They completely ran out of beer. Sign said they have fries, didn't have those either. The guy taking the food orders was having a hard time of it, with only one kind of food to order: hot dogs.
People who thought themselves too cool for the line outside obnoxiously cut to the front, nothing was done about it. The crowd here is pretentious and full of themselves, not nearly as cool as they imagine themselves to be. I don't care how edgy your haircut, how eccentric your glasses, or how skinny your jeans are- these do not elevate you to some sort of A-list.
My suggestion: if you must go on a Saturday night, find a way to bring your own food and booze for when they run out. And cut in front of the cutters.
Or, is it worth all the trouble, for the albeit solid DJ's? Maybe during the day, when my experiences have been relatively good. But as far as Saturday nights, definitely avoid this crowd of wannabe scenesters and the staff that doesn't have the competence to handle them. Any post-Warm Up option is better than this.

After reading the hype for years about Harry's - I convinced a couple of friend to make the trek with me to LIC yesterday. Dissapointing cannot begin to describe our experience. From having to trek to get there - to sitting in some cheap sand with sub-par views (sorry I live in Brooklyn, where the views are 1000x more amazing than staring at midtown), to expensive drinks, to an obnoxious crowd.....all in all a big fat waste of time. The only good thing is that I can finally know I wasn't missing anything all these years.

Want a view? Brooklyn Bridge Park by far beats this.

Went on Sunday, May 27th anticipating a good time with friends. We had a good time, but NOT at Water Taxi Beach. I spent most of the time in line waiting for drinks. They ran out of beer. My hot dog came on a hamburger bun (petty, but c'mon, can't they get anything right?). After waiting almost an hour for another round of drinks, our group bailed for a much friendlier, well-run LIC bar.

Went yesterday around 8pm. The only food they had left were hot dogs ($3). The beer taps weren't working. Drinks seemed a bit overpriced; sangria was $7, which wouldn't be bad except it was served in small 8oz solo cups.

I like the atmosphere. The sand and the view are excellent. I'll be back when they get organized and when they drop their prices a bit.

Pros: View. Sand. Atmosphere

Cons: Price, quality, organization

Went on Sunday, May 27th. As other reviewers said, the place was very poorly managed. Drink lines took an hour and they ran out of almost everything, and what there was to drink was weak and overpriced for the size. Also, there was no toilet paper in the disgusting port-a-potties (the only bathrooms). And on top of it there was a $5 cover charge. But the worst was yet to come -- while saving seats for my friends who were on the ridiculous drink lines, I was accosted by someone who works there. Two guys came up behind me, one grabbing me by the shoulders/upper arms and claimed that I had already been warned about smoking p-t (rhymes with dot). This man never identified himself as working there and I had never seen or spoken to him before, and I certainly wasn't smoking anything (either at that moment or earlier in the night, although others were). I screamed at him to get away from me and he threatened to throw me out. It was a very upsetting experience, heightened by this man putting his hands on me, slandering me, and all while I was without friends. The views are nice, and the music was good, but I wouldn't pay to go back and I wouldn't pay a cover charge.

Pros: View, Music

Cons: Prices, Mismanagement, No toilets, Staff

I am convinced the good reviews are from staff members...the place is awful from food/drinks to atmosphere to the lack of service. The only pro is the view. I agree with the other comment about finding another waterfront place to hang...there are plenty of good times and quality events on the waterfront in NYC that surpass this dump. The crowds are a mix of midtown idiots, B&T, and poser hipsters. Went with a group of friends twice after PS1 and once on a Friday-we tried to like it...but it is just awful. What a shame-good concept.

Harry and his beach are not interested in your business-- in the same way that they weren't interested in ours. It's a shame. I'm not here to rant, so I will encourage you, the dear readers, to leave youselves at the ungracious mercy of this isolated hot dog stand on the East River. For an added bonus, I suggest getting stranded there in the rain-- that way you can really experience the true colors of the venue and its staff. Seriously, try one of the City's numerous parks or other waterfront locations if you are interested in having either a good time or spending your free time wisely.

Pros: Maybe something that got lost amidst the overwhelming cons

Cons: All things that any savvy D&D player could imagine

This bar has come a long way since I went there after it first opened last summer. Then it was just a few people, a couple of picnic tables, some cheap beer and hot dogs, an incredible view and a sea of potential. Now the word is spreading, and everytime I convince my friends who live in the city to venture out to Long Island City (i'm a local) they have an awesome time and can't wait for the next time to come back.
If you go during the daytime it's pretty much like a beach without the waves, except they do have misters a long the fence to help keep you cool. Bottled water for a buck, cheap beer, yummy BBQ food, beach volleyball and good tunes, as well as waiters walking around happy to take your order! At night and early evening the place starts to pick up in tempo and volume. The best nights to go (if you don't mind waiting a bit longer at the bar or for table service) is post PS1-WarmUp Saturday's when a DJ plays under the big yellow tent, dancers dance, groups flock to the sand and a good time is had by all. Great for big groups, but also a great place to meet new people (when you can see them in the dark). In my opinion, by far the best chilled Summer venue out there!

Pros: A beach in the city, good value, great atmosphere!

Cons: Bar service can be a bit slow, but the venue is so chill I usually don't mind and just order 3 drinks at once (oh and then there's the portable toilet situation)
