.

In April of 2011, I Autumn Spitzke went to the office of Dr. Todd Cockrell. I received services in the Norterra Dental office located on Happy Valley Road. While I was receiving treatment, the nurse failed to read my chart that indicated my allergy to latex.

Shortly thereafter I began showing symptoms. They provided me with two Benadryl and sent me on my way. I made it about a block down the street when my husband had to come pick me up and transport me to the Urgent Care.

Upon arrival the doctor noted that I was ""lucky to be alive."" I had gone into anaphylactic shock. My vitals were poor, my airway was constricted and my speech was highly impaired. As a result of that encounter with latex, I am now required to carry an EpiPen.

As if that circumstance wasn't traumatic enough, nine months later the crown Dr. Cockrell had placed on my tooth broke off at the gum line. Which forced me into seeking out alternative care at another dental office. After close examination of the tooth, the x-rays and an oral examination, it was determined that I had received less than industry standard of care. Unfortunately my insurance will not pay because a crown is intended to last a minimum of five years.

My husband and myself have attempted to rectify these circumstances on multiple occasions with no prevail. We met with Dr. Cockrell himself; who clearly stated that negligence had occurred but, that he did not have the power to make such decisions on behalf of the dental group. We met with and spoke to the office manager, Mark on multiple occasions. Every encounter has been left with this phrase, ""It's in our legal department. They should be contacting you."" Nine months later and we are still getting the run around.
