This winery is the "sister" to Lucas & Llewelyn. Taste here and take your logo glass to L&L and you taste for free. Mandolina concentrates on the italian varietals Barbera, Pinot Grigio, Dolcetto. If you like Barbera you will probably like what they have done with this years 2003 vintage. This year my favorite wine was the 2002 Toccata, a blend of sangiovese, freisa and some bordeaux varietals.
I love this place. My husband and I discovered it a couple of years ago when we visited Solvang. At that time they had an un-oaked "virgin" chardonnay. (Chardonnay fermented and stored in stainless as opposed to oak). Not being a big fan of most CA chardonnay's I quickly changed my tune when tasting just the fruit as opposed to all wood. Their tasting room is in downtown Solvang. If you are staying in the town I would definitely recommend walking over to this tasting room. Their sister winery Mandolina (italian variteals) is within walking distance too. If you taste at L&L just take your logo glass to Mandolina and your taste their is free. Or vice versa.
Bridlewood is a great alternative to Fess Parker (probably the most "picnic'd" winery in the area). From the beautiful gardens in the front as you drive up to a nice lake in the back, this is a great place for a picnic. As one of my favorite places to taste in the area, we often find ourselves taking a bottle or two home. Great wine club discounts and deals on cases and per bottle.
This winery isn't too much to look at compared to others in the area, don't get me wrong it is nice, but the emphasis is on the wines here. The wine bar staff are very friendly, unpretentious and helpful. My husband and I first tried their Syrah at a tasting in 2004, since then when we are in the Santa Ynez area we always stop in for a bottle of their most recent vintage. The other wines are good too, but the syrah consistently stands out.
We stayed here for a few days when visiting Chicago. With the Watertower next door and Michigan Ave right outside anything you want is within a nice walk or short cab ride. The hotel itself has everything you would expect at the Ritz. On this visit I used their spa and alterations servcies and am pleased to say the both exceeded expectations. The tailor came to my room measured for the length and returned the slacks to our room well before they were promised. there was absolutely no interruption to my day. The spa facilities are wonderful as well and the massage services made 90 minute massages a must from now on. Very relaxing and much needed!
We have used Simon Uribe for over a year now. Our yard is difficult and terraced. We had a hard time finding a weekly gardener that would lug the mower etc up to all levels (6 total) yet charge a reasonble price. Not only do they take care of all of the levels to our yard, they also till the soil in our flower beds and coil our house neatly if we have left it unruly.
Okay, I went to Toto's this past week and it is okay. For starters they have a B grade on the window. Usually this makes me run away very fast, but my husband wanted to try it. So we went in and had dinner. The food was okay but nothing really special. I don't think I will go again when visiting the area. I would have to disagree with J.B.'s 4 start review as I think Toto's is only a 3 star establishment.
CONS: Health Dept Grade B
When our heater broke this past winter I came to Insider Pages to find a good repair company. I called Air Tro based on the reviews and I can honestly say I wasn't disappointed. They were able to send someone out within 24 hours to diagnose the problem. The part was ordered and the heater fixed within 3 days. They even came out on a Saturday to finish the job. Their service technicians were pleasant and knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. The cost seemed reasonable considering the job. A very helpful bonus: they were more than happy to call me when their technician was on the way. Thus I didn't have to miss more work than necessary. This was a pleasant surprise since most home care companies I have dealt with are resistant to call at best.
PROS: Saturday appointments available
I just visited Nicholson Ranch for a company event. The winerey is fairly new. I believe they just opened in 2004 or 2005. I was very impressed with their wines, I thought they were some of the best of the day. The tour we had was great and included their underground cave and a wonderful private tasting room. I don't know if they tour the general public, but I highly recommend Nicholson for group tours.
PROS: Wines, atmosphere, location (corner of Napa rd and RT121)
My husband and I have used Christiansen & Christiansen for the past 2 years. The benefits that come from working with Dave are many. He doesn't just do our taxes, he also takes the time to look at our income and property to help figure out what will benefit us the most the next tax year. As mentioned in the previous reviews his services are reasonably priced for the value they provide. I highly recommend Dave!
