Many people have raved that Nora's is the best Italian restaurant in the valley. We were sorry to learn that this is not the case. The food is good -- not spectacular. The lasagna is not made using authentic ingredients (like ricotta cheese) -- it's made with bechamel sauce. The service is only fair and the food came out of the kitchen way too fast for us to believe that our order was made for us. The best part was the price -- almost all the pasta dishes were under $10, and the meat-based entrees were under $15. We wished it could have lived up to the raves. NB, the website nor the other reviews mentioned that they take reservations, and most reviews we read before going spoke about people waiting in line to get in. Imagine how we felt when they were obnoxious to us because we didn't have a reservation.
PROS: Cheap eats
CONS: Service, atmosphere
This was the first vet we've been to that didn't try to sell us expensive tests and procedures for our ailing, elderly cat. He understood our feelings and treated the problem we took the cat in without trying to make us feel guilty for not purchasing additional services we didn't want. The staff was courteous, helpful and kept our cat at-ease while he was being treated. We won't hesitate to return.
We love the service from Del Mar. The staff cares for our yard as if it were their own. During July, when temperatures were over 115, Adam, the owner, drove through the neighborhood to look at customers' lawns. He called to instruct us on how to adjust our watering schedule so that our lawn wouldn't die. Now that's impressive!
Sammy's specializes in California-style pizza. If you're from California and miss that style of pizza, then Sammy's is fine. If you're from anywhere else, go for the salads. The range of salad offerings is nice, the optional chicken is freshly grilled, and there are wonderful home-made salad dressings (including a great lowfat offering). If you do order a salad and want bread with it, be sure to ask your server -- we're not always automatically served bread when we order salad.
The first few times I had my hair done by a student, everything was fine. When I finally got comfortable and let down my guard, the teacher had the stylist over process my hair, and they didn't do anything to help. When I called to find out what I could do (so my hair wouldn't break and I wouldn't be bald), They told me to go to Wal-mart and buy any conditioner I wanted and try it. There was no advice, no support and no customer care. Try them at your own risk!
Pink Taco in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino (4455 Paradise Road) has a fun menu, great salsas, wonderful chips, and provides great value. Tortillas are made on-site, and there are several unique dishes. We especially love the Mexican Turkey Chopped Salad (which we get tossed with salsa instead of dressing), the Rajas & Potatoes, and the Achiote Grilled Chicken Breast. On the downside, weve been there several times during off-peak hours, when food has been re-warmed (and is dried out or not fully heated), service has been really slow, and the entire experience has been painful. Also, there are only a few booths, and many tables have bench-style chairs, which do not have backs.
For a special birthday, a family member ordered flowers for me. The FTD order was fulfilled by Garden of Eden, who delivered dead flowers. I contacted Garden of Eden, and they refused to make good on the delivery. Management was very snippy, and their attitude was 'this is the desert, and flowers die -- not our problem.' Contacting the Better Business Bureau did not help. The bottom line is that is that this is the type of firm whose business practices make the phrase "Buyer Beware" a necessity.
Sunset Auto Imports provides a rare service -- good honest repair work. Management gets involved with customers. Quotes are fair, reasonable and honored. Work is done well and completed when promised. We've been customers over the past four years, and we're almost always happy with the work. The biggest downside is getting there. Their location on Boulder Highway (between Warm Springs and Sunset) is fairly inconvenient for us.
