When in the market for a new Honda CRV a few years ago, I sent a fax blast to every Honda dealer in a 50 mile radius asking for quotes on the exact model and features I wanted. Some didn't even reply, and others were less than enthusiastic that they weren't getting me in the store for the "hard sell". This dealership was extremely friendly, had the best price, and were happy to do it. They made the buying process easy.
PROS: Good price, nice people
All this store does is paint and wallpaper, which makes it great when that is the job you are tackling. These guys know the ins and outs and have all the little odds and ends tools you ever needed to paint your house. They have rollers to sprayers, lots of different types of paints and can mix custom colors for you. Very knowledgable staff is extremely helpful. Don't miss the free coffee making machine.
PROS: These guys know everything about paint, FREE COFFEE!!!
CONS: Nothing but paint
Established gym with a good reputation and locally owned. Facilites are kept clean, and they have a fair amount of cardio machines. I can't speak to the classes as I haven't done any of those. Nice indoor pool but no outdoor pool at all. Also no raquetball courts.
PROS: Clean, decently priced
CONS: No outdoor pool, no raquetball courts
Sharon is the owner of this local florist that offers a wide variety of flowers. Both cut and in arrangements. She always is able to give me what I'm looking for, whether its a single rose or a full arrangement. New shipments come in each Tuesday so get there that day or on Wednesday for the best picks. For Valentines day, she has dozens of arrangements already prepared and ready to go for those of us that forgot to buy flowers ahead of time!
I hate going to car dealerships because I always expect the big squeeze - you know what I mean, high pressure sales tactics. This place seems to know that we all hate that and has laid off a bit. I was interested in a used car I saw an ad for in the paper. While they were very agressive about getting me to come in once I had called, they were very polite when I arrived. They showed me the car I was interested in, then when I didn't like that they showed me another. I didn't buy the car, but they were wiling to negotiate with me and I got them to a very fair price I thought. I will visit again when in the market for a new or used car.
PROS: Polite, friendly service, not too pushy
CONS: Still a car dealer
The problem with getting a great haircut is that you get someone new everytime. I stick with Debra at this location though, and seem to get a consistent haircut every time.
The add ons are what make this place nice. Watch ESPN right in front of you while your hair is getting cut. Then, my favorite perk is the shampoo when you're done. No hair clippings following you around the rest of the day! They have always pushed face massage and steam towel treatments, but now have put the steam towel treatment into their standard haircut - for about $18. I always have a coupon however - check local mailers and they give you a coupon book if you're a first timer. Plus don't forget the punch card - every 6th haircut free!
PROS: Fair price, Perks like free shampoo, steam towel
CONS: Not always a consistent cut
This store has been around a while, and recently took over the old Ace hardware located next door to it. They have a wonderful selection of high quality furniture, but be prepared to pay for it. If you're looking for a bargain, go garage saling because you won't find it here.
PROS: Good selection
CONS: Not cheap
Kid to Kid is a resale shop for kids clothing, toys, stollers and the like. If you're looking to purchase a big ticket item like a crib or a stroller, this could be a good place to look first. We purchased a baby bassinet here that looked brand new and was priced about half retail. But, selection is iffy.
We've also taken a few things to sell and that has been just ok. They don't take items they already have a lot of, so only be prepared to get rid of about half your things.
PROS: Cheap deals
CONS: Can't always find what you're looking for
It is true, Lifetime Fitness has world class weight rooms, indoor and outdoor pools (complete with water slides), 2 full court basketball courts, 4 raquetball courts and fitness studios, but there is more. Its a huge building and is exquisitely detailed - granite countertops in the locker rooms, travertine marble showers and floors, slate walls in the indoor pool area, great cafe, incredible child care, rock climbing wall and even a spa! This is a family oriented place where you can do more than work out. You can relax in the pool and feed your family dinner. Very nice staff that knows their stuff. Kind of expensive, but you get a ton for the money.
PROS: World class facilities, more than just a gym
There are several Celebrity Bakery and Takerys in the Dallas area, but each is individually owned - and that is what makes or breaks the place. This is the best of the bunch in DFW and the owner, Chris, is there every single day to make sure this place runs smooth as silk.
Daily bakery items include scones, muffins, cookies and cakes that are to die for. All of these are made from scratch every day and the quality is always consistent and very high.
Lunches are good - try the chicken salad sandwhich served with chips and olive and a carrot slice. Good casseroles for taking home for dinner as well.
Extra money and effort was put into the decor and it is light and friendly without being pink and obnoxious.
PROS: Great food, service, decor and quality
