We love going up to Northstar. It is not so big that you feel completely lost yet there is fun and activities for everyone. We usually rent a condo that we can ski out of onto the slopes. The kids love the snowboard parks. The slopes range in difficulties although I have heard some really expert skiiers tell me that it is not as challenging for them as other places. For us though it is great.
If you like walking in the woods amongst giant redwoods, this is the place to go. Just over an hour from the south bay you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Wear good walking shoes.
The YMCA offers week long summer sleepaway camps for children of all ages. The camps keep kids busy all day with summer sports and crafts appropriate for the age group. This is a no frills camp, but my son loved it and would go back anytime.
The gallery carries a number of different mediums from a variety of artists. Very interesting works - definitely worth window shopping and possibly buying something of interest.
Tom Seghi is able to capture fruits in contemporary still life paintings like you have never seen before. The fruits appear elegant and sensuous. The bold colors of the fruit against a typcially dark background make the painting jump out to the viewer. They are absolutely fantastic.
The gallery at the Ritz-Carlton carries sculpture, paintings and other exquisite works of art. It is must see as far as galleries go and while you are there enjoy a lunch at the Ritz.
You will find very unique pieces of new and antique furniture and items in this store. If you are in the Half Moon Bay area, do stop by and take a look.
Whenever we have visitors come that have not been here before we undoubtedly wind up taking a day trip toward Santa Cruz and stop at the Mystery Spot. This little optical illusion tour is fun and interesting. Give it a try if you haven't been.
Although working many art shows, Frankly Scarlet carries some of the best tribal art (shields, benches, etc.) that I have seen and their prices are incredible. If you can't catch them at a show, just give them a call.
The Central Valley YMCA offers weeklong sleepaway stays at camps surrounding Sequoia Lake. My son went to two sessions of this camp and thoroughly enjoyed himself. The kids are continuously busy with healthy outdoor activities. Since this is a YMCA camp it is nothing extravagant, but I have to tell you he had a great time with doing the standard stuff kids like to do along with others in their same age group. I highly recommend this and at the prices charged, it is a real bargain.
