This attraction is new to Salem and is now one of the best to see! Located across the street from the Witch Dungeon Museum, this attraction is tucked away on a small side street, but is worth finding.
The theatre inside is small, holding about 50 people, but the set design and actors are larger than life! The show runs through Eerie Legends of Salem that include historical ghost stories and accurate information about modern-day witchcraft. The effects with sound and lighting are superb as is the acting.
Show runs approximately 20 minutes and the admission price is very reasonable. While waiting for the next show to begin you can browse the creepy Haunted Portraits gallery. Overall HIGHLY recommended! A world-class show on a little street in Salem!
The New England Pirate Museum is especially fun in summer months or at Halloween where there are pirate actors enticing you into the museum itself. Well-priced, this museum gives you a self-guided tour that describes local pirate lore, sunken ships and buried treasure. The gift shop is a trip with everything from eye patches to chocolate gold coins. A fun place to get distracted from non-pireate life. Aarrr!
Immie's Designs is one of the best dress boutiques around! A perfect spot for brides and their wedding party, Immie will taylor any fabric, color or style to fit your needs. Of course prices are high as you pay for custom-tailored gowns, but that is expected.
My best friend used the services of Immie to create her bridal gown as well as our bridesmaids gowns and the dresses were amazingly unique and fit us all perfectly. She is a joy to meet and a pleasure to work with!
We are so thankful in the office to have a Carvel Ice Cream nearby. It is has become our official place to buy birthday cakes for office celebrations.
Carvel's offers all kinds of fabulous cake creations and they are hand's down the best makers of the chocolate crunchies that appear between ice cream and cake layers.
A great place for cakes or that special treat!
The First Church in Salem is a true historical gem. The building itself is beautiful, with a shape that resembles a castle. The outside beauty continues inside with centuries-old stained glass windows, pew seats that are configured in highly-polished wood boxes with a door, and more importantly a simply peaceful atmosphere. Hearing a talented organist at the antique pipe organ is truly a fabulous treat. Although not religious, I have been to the church for many an event, all of which are wonderful. I would recommend taking a visit whether for spiritual reasons or to view the historical architecture.
My husband uses this town barber and is always pleased with the outcome. He had his hair cut and a hot shave for his wedding day and was thrilled with the service. I can verify that they are good because if he looks bad I'd make him change his barber!
Usually with a staff of 2 or 3 barbers on hand, the wait time is kept to a minimum, even on weekends. The barbers are skilled and friendly and somehow always remember a name. The best part of all is the price ? a fantastic value for a hair cut.
The Rebecca Nurse Homestead is a great place to spend some time when you want a little solitude. Featuring the actual home of Rebecca Nurse (accused of being a witch and hung in 1692), an outbuilding that was used to film a witchcraft trials movie as well as the Nurse family graveyard. The property itself is expansive surrounded by woods making it a nice place to walk, especially in Fall when the leaves have changed.
Museum admission (to the house) is very nominal and you can walk the grounds for free. A great way to keep history alive!
Located on the Essex Street pedestrian mall, Bernard?s Jewelers is the classiest jewelry store around. Featuring huge window displays that show off their fantastic jewelry collection, Bernard?s also offers repair service, sizing and more. Specialists in gold and diamond jewelry, Bernard?s has a selection of unique wedding bands and engagement rings that puts the mall stores to shame. Always staffed with multiple employees, I?ve found their customer service to be fantastic with answering questions, giving advice, etc. Bernard?s also carries an assortment of gift items located at the back of the shop. It?s great to have a local jeweler steeped in tradition!
The food by Effortless Edibles is delicious and well-priced! Because this caterer has day hours when I'm at work, I purchase many of her meals and treats in Pamplemousse Kitchen Shop in Salem. It's the perfect way to put together a quick meal that's yummy and good for you. The quiche is absolutely delicious! Recently I purchased dog cookies and my pooch snapped them up.
Give it a try - you won't be disappointed!
We use Petsmart not only for supplies such as food and toys, but also for grooming. Our bulldog gets his nails cut in their grooming section and the girls do a great job! Our bully is the nervous type when it comes to having his nails cut and the staff is both friendly and accomodating to his needs. He leaves there looking spiffy and feeling more relaxed because of their attention. And the price is right - highly recommended!
